Is Mitt Romney too good to be true?
And for those early morning comedians out there in need of a laugh. -WB

Governor Romney, Meet Governor Romney

By Jonathan Darman and Evan Thomas
Newsweek
Feb. 26, 2007 issue - There is something a little too good to be true about Mitt Romney. The former governor of Massachusetts and candidate for the Republican presidential nomination is so buff and handsome in late middle age that when a brochure from a recent campaign showed him standing, bare-chested, on a swimming float, he was accused of sexually pandering to women voters. Romney, who is still married to his high-school sweetheart, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke and doesn't swear. His wife has said that, in private, he never even raises his voice.

1. Romney is a conservative's conservative
At least until Gingrich is in the race - for the moment all he is doing is providing a contrast to Guilliani and McCain both of which are not beloved by the base. Once Gingrich steps in (assuming he does), he won't even do that.

On the other hand his candidacy does provide us with the opportunity to have a reasonable and well thought out discussion of Mormonism.

3. Maybe, but have you heard the "Multiple Choice Mitt" complaints from Repubs
He really has flip flopped on his positions.

8. I like half of his positions; I don't like it when he goes 180 degrees.
So, we've got a guy who was pro-choice, but is now 100% pro-life.

He was sympathetic with GLB issues, now he's not.

He recently got himself a lifetime membership in NRA.

4. conservatives don't trust Romney, though
Because of his recent "conversion" on the matter of being formerly pro-choice and is now anti-choice (just like McCain)

5. I guess the advantage is that Conservatoids have years of
looking down their noses at McCain and Guilliani but Romney's been on their radar screen for a lot less time.

21. Only if you spell conservative
O-P-P-O-R-T-U-N-I-S-T.

Romney just joined the NRA 6 months ago. His history is more pro-gun control then anti.

And that's just one example. They abound.

2. My gaydar goes off
So he is probably another republican closet case like Teddy Haggard. Romney sure does spend a lot of time to look handsome.

What other gay stereotypes can attribute to him, since he must be gay?

28. I was speaking as a gay man
And my observation had nothing to do with his way of dressing, other than to mention it. I said was that my gaydar goes off when I have seen him here in Des Moines.

GEESH, speaking one's mind on DU sure is not as fun as it used to be. Now, as a gay man, I am accused of spreading stereotypes against gay men. What a world some like Bluebear have created. Lighten up people!

I thought gay men were the ones who had gaydar, so I was under the assumption that is how you were speaking. I wasn't sure after I saw some of the other posts though.

36. LOL
I agree Beelzebud, people no longer want to have any fun or enjoyment on DU. I have noticed unless I specifically start a statement with the quotation "as a gay man ..." that I had better not make light of anyone or anything "gay".

Have a good day and remember to laugh ... it's good for the soul. Ugh, now I suppose I pissed off the atheists or somebody. :)

If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at?

You have a good day too. :)

One thing that strikes me funny, now that I'm thinking of it. I'll bet a lot of minorities wish they had an awful stereotype like "good looking and handsome". :D

40. He also doesn't work
He spent very little and I mean VERY little time in MAssachusetts, prefering to run as far away from the heathens as possible every chance he got. He prefereed to campaign for president years early rather then do the fucking job he was paid to do. He will be crushed in any debate because he is a loser who has gotten through life on his looks and no substance. I would bet there is alot of dirt hidden under his plastic exterior.
