on edit: my original post was a bit mean-spirited, so I'm changing it to wish everyone experiencing inclement weather safe travels and here's hoping the bad weather breaks soon.

8. Everything is closed.
Same here in NE Kansas. My satellite has been off and on with the very heavy freezing rain. So far not too bad but same as you, around an inch expected tonight and then another with it all day tomorrow then 2 inches of sleet and snow on top of that. It may be awhile before I can leave this farm. It sounds like OK and Missouri really got nailed. I hope we are luckier. Stay safe.

13. Isn't that what schools are for?
LOL, sad but true.

I do not ever remember things being called off for weather before, when I was but a tyke walking to school with a hot potato in my hand to keep me warm....sorry I got carried away. But really, I think it is good but we seem like such scaredy cats anymore. Used to be there had to be a tornado on the ground headed straight for you but then they figured you had enough sense all on your own to figure that things were canceled. Did we just get stoopid or are we bigger chickens or are they just being fright mongers? Don't forget your coat tomorrow, don't forget your sun screen....yes mother weather lady. Geeze.

17. Same here.
We seem to have problems when the clouds get thick too, that we can't fix :(. I should go back out and clear it off before I go to bed but I am in my warm jammies with a terrycloth robe and I am not going back out there tonight!

I HATE when I can't be online when I want to be. Grrrrr.

16. I am about 2 miles
east, as the crow flies, for the QC Airport. Have buttoned up, oil lamps, candles, and flashlight ready, cat inside, much to her chagrin, plenty of food and extra blankets. It is just starting to "spit" here. Stay safe and warm everyone.

20. Did the snapping trees keep you up all night?

I remember a severe ice storm up in NH and the trees snapped all night long. They sound like rifles shooting off followed by the crash of limbs.

Sadly, many of the trees can't recover.

22. My son's school called about 5:15 this morning.
Then I saw my daughter's school listed on WGN. I got word that my school was closed around 6:00, but by that time I decided I wasn't going in even if they were open.

Looks like a perfect day for baking. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

23. Every time we get ice in Central Texas
everything shuts down, of course, but there are always people who have moved here from northern locales who laugh at us and tell us we don't know how to drive, we're overreacting, etc. My view has always been that ice is ice, no matter where it occurs and no matter how experienced you are with it. It brings down trees and branches, which bring down power lines. It coats the roads and bridges and sidewalks. Since it doesn't happen here that often, we don't spend a lot of tax dollars on sand trucks and "ice melt," whatever that is! ;)

So while I regret that people have died in this storm and others are stranded and cold, it's a reminder that ice storms affect the inhabitants wherever they occur!

Stay warm and safe! :hi:
