Wow. The racists want to make the racial group they despise racists. And it's working.
So now Republicans don't have to actually stand up and admit how racist they are, they just accuse those who support those of another race as being racist--witness the O/O threads today.

In contrast, I have never seen anybody accuse a white candidate of supporting another candidate because they were white and it happens all the time.

5. This is a forum for DEMOCRATS. Or didn't you know that?
You seem to be saying that people who are weighing in on the incessant and way-too-fucking-many Obama and Oprah threads are Republican Racists.

That suggestion is against forum rules--you can't be calling people REPUBLICANS like that....

You might want to just delete your post and ask the mods to dump this.

7. You are calling people who post here REPUBLICANS. That is against forum rules.
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 12:08 PM by MADem
You can't DO that, see? If you have a problem with a post, you alert on it. You don't go calling people REPUBLICANS just because you don't like what they are saying.

You don't have any leeway on that matter. You can't do it. You might wanna read those rules before you keep on like this.

The salient excerpt, on edit:

Do not publicly accuse another member of this message board of being a disruptor, conservative, Republican, FReeper, or troll, or do not otherwise imply they are not welcome on Democratic Underground. If you think someone is a disruptor, click the "Alert" link below their post to let the moderators know.

18. You still have time to edit your post. And I'm not "stalking" you.
"Stalking" is what happens when a person follows another from thread to thread.

What I am doing is telling you that you are flouting DU rules, which you AGREE to abide by when you sign up to post here. I told you politely, and you give me shit.

Smooth move, there.

9. Why now?
Why endorse someone now, and not in 2004? I would have liked to see Oprah endorsing John Kerry in 2004. We all needed to oust Bush and the turnout was way up there but not for Oprah or enough to win (stolen or not, and another story).

11. So the fact that she endorses Obama "NOW" is the issue that makes it racist?
I don't understand how now or then makes a difference. Their race won't change and this is all about race.

17. I think 2004 was a very important election.
Now that Bush is going to be out of office, Oprah steps in to endorse someone. Why now?

19. I think we are talking apples and oranges--you, timing; me race.
However, the 2004 election was stolen and it wouldn't have made any difference what Oprah did then--other than it would have caused the vote flippers to flip a few more votes. The results would not have changed and I really don't believe that her endorsement will make that much of a difference either. Nevertheless, she does have a right to make an endoresemnt without being accused of racism.

22. Rove underestimated the tsunami in 06.
So there was a possibility the same could have happened in 06.

But regardless of what happened. It doesn't matter whether it was stolen or not because we're not talking about the difference it would make to win the election. Were talking about support.

20. No, the fact that she has never talked about
politics, much less endorsed anyone before Obama, is suspect. Whether or not she has done so because of race or not, is really a moot point. It appears that Oprah had no need to step foot in to politics before this light skinned black man entered the race. In politics perception is everything. This may end up as a big blunder on both their parts.

21. There are many who WANT it to be a blunder and are setting the stage for that
Witness DU today.

At the same time, Oprah has talked politics before Obama.

She has hosted political guests on her show over the years.

31. Yes, she has had political guests on her show
but, if you take a look at them you will see that she had both repubs and dems. She didn't endorse any of them. They were strictly on her show for entertainment value, no one really talked politics, it was all gossip type stuff.

Unless she has changed in the last few years, she has been totally apolitical.

32. could it be....
simply...

that Oprah has finally woken up to how bad things are in this country; that this is one of the most important elections ever; that Obama was against the war; that she sees in him someone very different and apparently with a wider experience in the world, that she sees him, not because of race, to be the best candidate.

One of the things that I have found difficult with particularly right-wing acquaintances, is their understanding of other people in other countries. Having lived in a country where they have always had what they wanted and lived well in comparison to third world countries, they judge others from the point of view of their standards. Even if one was just a child, and it was only a few years, that experience opens the mind to an extent that these right-wing people will never be able to. And this is very important in dealing with and understanding those countries.

33. You are exactly right about her possible point of view. She may indeed have those
opinions and if she does, then it's her right to act as she sees fit. That people might disagree with her choices is understandable, but that disagreement being relegated to race alone is not acceptable. Of course nobody has mentioned any of the points that you brought up because those cannot be argued.
