Larry Johnson: More on Torture Tapes

The blooming scandal surrounding the destruction of torture tapes is just beginning. The parade of current and former intelligence officers with something to say on the matter will include some very highly regarded Case Officers. For example, asking who ordered the tapes and who directed keeping them on hand will lead to Cofer Black, who headed the Counterterrorism Center at CIA until he moved to the State Department as the Coordinator for Counterterrorism in December 2002. Whether or not Cofer is complicit in any way, his positions as a Blackwater executive and advisor to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will make him irresistible to lazy reporters looking for colorful characters and simple story lines...

1. tapes? tapes? what's this about tapes? What is this? 1973?
Can one still even purchase tapes? Are we to believe they are monitoring a facility with tapes? Are we to believe that the hardware that requires tapes is still functioning a decade past their obsolesce? Are we to believe that there are budget items to maintain such equipment in this day and age? Or is 'tape' just an emotional keyword to be delivered within a specific context that is meant to trigger a specific response?

4. Is it just a manner of speaking? Like kleenex or xerox?
A word that stands in for other words.

I don't know.

Interesting.

3. K*R Thanks. This blog is money in the bank. First rate.
I just posted a comment there with these questions:

Who has a copy of the tapes? (You just know someone does.)

Who has a transcript of the tapes? (Don't think that's been specifically denied, but not sure)

As the man said, "Show me the money" - show us the tapes.

5. I knew this would lead to Blackwater as well
So CIA Cofer Black was also a Blackwater exec and perhaps they were doing the torturing.
