There is talk and then there is action!
Edited on Fri Dec-07-07 03:16 PM by NGinpa
Have you seen that commercial where someone is chocking and the circle of folks around him just talk about solutions while he still chokes. Finally another person comes along and does the Heimlich maneuver, with the punchline for the commercial being do, don't talk??

I remembered this above story/commercial when I heard today on the news how they were having another prayer vigil for the victims of the Omaha shooting. Just like after the Columbine shootings and after the VA Tech shootings, the solution to these national problems are prayer vigils. Now I can see how a prayer vigil might be the main solution or reaction to a situation that was totally natural or accidental such as an accident due to bad WEATHER or an earthquake. However when mentally ill shooters easily get guns and randomly kill people, I just think that prayer vigils are an excuse to act like society is doing something instead of actually doing!

I think we in America have a high tendency to do this talking-prayer vigil ritual instead of taking real action on many hard social ills!

1. Damn. I thought you were talking about actually doing something about
removing the criminals from power.

It is clear that "our" political leaders are barely doing any talking and certainly not taking any action.

But for your topic, I agree that it is about as useful and constructive as merely wringing your hands and crying "woe is me."
