It is so powerful, so beautiful, so horrible, so gruesome... Yet ultimately so uplifting. I have too many conflicting emotions, it is an amazingly powerful work.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It left me feeling (somewhat ashamed and guilty to admit this but) grateful for all the very basic things I have been able to take for granted throughout my life.

It is amazing, a very personal glimpse inside a world I would never otherwise have known. It is breathtaking. It is thought-provoking.

2. Why are you ashamed for being "grateful"?

3. I guess because it made me realize in a very visceral way just how our exploits in the middle east
Edited on Fri Dec-07-07 08:03 AM by peacebird
are affecting people... Ashamed to be part of the problem. Ashamed that I couldn't stop my government from destroying the cradle of civilization. Ashamed that so many children are now orphaned or crippled or both as a result of the senseless pre-emptive attack on Iraq and the disaster that came before it - our little "adventure" in Afghanistan.

Wondering how I can possibly help to make right again this great wrong that was done in my name. That is part of why I feel guilty about being grateful for my lot. As to the rest, I don't know - I haven't fully "processed" the emotions the film brought out...

9. I´m impressed with your honesty
and your courage to admit "your truth".

I think that´s what MATURITY is, realizing that our actions have consequences.

Peace.

5. It is. The author has another book called A Thousand Splendid Suns
which is also amazing. It's also based in Afghanistan and is about the lives of two women who are forced to marry the same man, a cruel Taliban-type.

I hope all is well with your son.

6. I put it on my Netflix Q a couple of weeks ago.
It's not out on DVD yet, of course. But I'll be notified when it is available.

7. I didn't even KNOW they'd made a movie of it.. the book was one of the best I'd ever read,
but very disturbing. I imagine the movie will be equally hard to digest. Thanks for the heads up!
