No charges over online Columbine comment [right-wing teacher cheering shooters]
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 07:32 AM by LoZoccolo
Buss, 46, a high school chemistry teacher in suburban Milwaukee, was arrested by police last week for a Nov. 16 post on a conservative blog that covers Wisconsin politics.

During a discussion over teacher salaries, Buss wrote that Columbine killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold "knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union thugs. One shot at a time!" He added that the gunmen, who killed 12 students and one teacher in the April 1999 attack, should be remembered as heroes.

This just goes to show that the FReepers and other right-wingers making insane overheated comments involving violence could be people in any position of society, even the teacher at your local high school.

2. How do you know this wasn't a sarcastic comment
from a liberal on a conservative site? Glad he wasn't charged. Anyway, it sounds like it could be sarcastic- at least to me.

4. Seems to be the case
After all, he was head of the local teachers' union.

What he wrote was just plain stupid, even if he was trying to be sarcastic.

3. I read that he was not a right winger
That he was a union member who was tired of the Unions getting trashed on the board.

Not everyone has the sarcasm tag on their boards...

6. Oh no are you serious? I take that back then.
Still, we see a lot of insane stuff on right-wing boards, and someone out there has to be posting it!

5. Also didn't he write this from home?
Had he been charged, this could have a chilling effect on all forums and chat rooms. Many here at DU,( me included) and their Bush comments would be green-lighted for prosecution.

7. Here is an OP I posted here on the story with LINK... He was being sarcastic
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

But what is really scary is that he made an anonymous post that was intended to be sarcastic and the police tracked him down AND ARRESTED HIM for exercising his 1st Amendment Free Speech Rights.

He spent an hour in jail and was released on $350 bond. IN all likelihood he was booked and fingerprinted. And he was placed on Administrative Leave at his school.
