If you're ever in the Tidewater area of Virginia, as I was recently, this is a great stop: the
http://www.warmuseum.org/">Virginia War Museum. The wartime posters alone are worth the trip. Also, if you're ever in Alexandria, Virginia (my adopted hometown), there is a great shop on the west end of King Street that has an old-fashioned storefront window, displaying many originals of these same kinds of posters. The proprietor has been opening the shop less and less lately, but it's got these great stick-out windows like old Main Streets.
Some of those empowerment posters helped uncork the genie during World War II (e.g., Rosie the Riveter). America's life has been richer ever since.
