I watched John Edwards on Charlie Rose last night; not all of it, but enough to figure him out. There was a moment -- Rose asked him what the five most important policy decisions he would make as president were. Edward's reply was shortened -- Rose moved on before he could complete the list -- but by the third point, I was overwhelmed by emotion. His first was getting out of Iraq, on which Rose pressed him for detail later, and on which Edwards presented a clear, detailed, and realistic plan. His second was restoring America's moral leadership, stating that we are needed to be the Light, not the belligerent bully --
His demeanor suddenly reminded me of someone -- Bobby Kennedy. Edwards is intelligent, informed, historically knowledgeable, and Awake. Such a president would an Amazing Event. Such honesty, and capability -- this is the first time I've seen him in this sort of venue, and it stunned me. His similarities in depth, philosophy, and moral courage to Bobby Kennedy were suddenly striking, and aroused very powerful emotions in me.
We don't really deserve a president like him. We need him, desperately, and I perceive that he's utterly electable; but I've lost trust my sense of American Destiny, I suppose. We haven't yet reaped the Stupid Harvest we have sown.
John Edwards could help us all get by these Terrible Days -- I know it.
