yet another Repub who lacked empathy

So I'm reading various obituaries of Henry Hyde today and keep running across how he only came to support the Family and Medical Leave Act (in direct opposition to his own avowed dislike of big government and social programs) when he was having to deal with working in the Senate and caring for his dying wife.

Why is it that so many of these people can't seem to drum up any human feeling and compassion for people in need until the situation impacts them directly? And of course that new-found compassion only extends to people in the exact same position...it doesn't translate into the ability to feel for and empathize with people in other hard life situations.

I hope now that he's on the other side that he can finally see the damage he and others like him have done through their utter lack of empathy.

Are there ANY with real values?

Are there ANY who aren't hypocrites?

Are there ANY who live by the same expectations they have for others?

If so, please list them here as I can't recall any.
