Pet Owners Warned Not To Let Animals Wander

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- Pet owners in Flagler County are being warned not to let their animals roam free after a rash of pet-related BB gun shootings in the area.

Sheriff deputies said at least four dogs have been taken to the Human Society in Flagler suffering from deep BB wounds.

The injuries, if left undetected, could lead to life-threatening infections, doctors said.

In one case, a dog was shot nine times by the shooter, police said.

1. Can we do the same to the shooter as he did to the dog?
Shoot him or her 9 times with a BB gun?

Prefereably in the genitals.

2. Don't profilers say animal molesters are the pre-cursor
of serial killers. According to the old Barney saying NIP IT IN THE BUD. And that is a very truthful saying. It should be. And the odd thing is I am watching one of the forensic shows about serial killer John Wayne Gacey.

4. Odds are it's an adult shooting "nuisance" animals.
Probably some guy who's offended by dogs pooping in his yard or something like that.

8. Thanksgiving evening
about 11:30 pm, my stepdaughter called us from the emergency vet's. She was there with her 8 month old puppy who had been shot in the head by a BB gun-toting client of the drug dealer who lives next door to her in Dundalk, Maryland. She and her boyfriend had returned from Thanksgiving festivities at the various parents' houses (except ours of course) and had put the dogs out for one last romp in the yard before bed. They heard a yelp and went out to check, saw the guy on the porch of the next door neighbor's house laughing his ass off and holding the gun. The puppy has a BB lodged in one of his sinus cavities, where it will stay unless it begins to migrate. They called the police to report the incident and were told that they couldn't do anything since it was just a dog, although they did take a report, to add to the other reports on the neighbor's house (she lives in an old row house and when the cops come to bust the neighbor for selling drugs or abusing his elderly mother or whatever, the whole street turns out to watch). So they called Animal Control, who also took a report, but because they can't identify the shooter other than it wasn't the neighbor, can't do anything.

9. As horrible as this is, the "parents" of animals just need to remember

that it's unlikely that this creep will break into their homes to shoot their beloved pets.

People who let their pets "run free", are deluding themselves. Others do not see their precious pet as they do.

Some people see their animal as a pest who digs up their yard, kills their birds, scares their kids, dumps their trash cans..

And there are so many dangers "out there" for their precious babies to encounter.

ticks
fleas
angry neighbors
cruel kids
drivers who may try to run over them
anti-freeze dumpers
toxic trash they may eat
other meaner, bigger animals
diseases from dead animals they may encounter
diseases from the excrement of other wandering animals
being picked up by animal control
and many more

Life is not like it used to be. Most people do not live in Mayberry, RFD..where everyone in town looks out for "the town dog" who wanders the streets, looking for handouts, snacks & ear-rubs from the loving neighborhood..

Pet dogs & cats are only "special" to YOU.. They are like perpetual toddlers...ready to get in to mischief at every opportunity, and they are creatures of sights, smells, instinct & sudden movement, so they can get into harm's way in a big hurry, because they do not have the cognitive and intuitive skills of grown up humans..

If you want to prevent the anguish of never knowing "what happened" to your dear pet, or of finding it's broken body by the roadside, KEEP IT INSIDE YOUR HOUSE OR YARD (note..cats will NOT stay in your own yard by putting up a fence)..... and once out of your yard, they did not "run away".. they were KEPT away, by any number of possibilities.... none good..
