Dontcha love the way that RWers like Scarborough
quote or use Dems like JFK or Tip O'Neill or even sometimes FDR (!) as icons? If any of them were in power now, he'd be trying to toast their nuts on Constitution Avenue.

That being said, imagine that if slavery were still legal, would the Rethug Party be the party of Abolition? The Rethugs talk about Lincoln as though he were a hero for them. Yeah...I can see Bill Bennett or Georgie Will, or O-Reilly demanding that the slaves be freed. And there would sit Ted Kennedy, demanding that the feudal system continue for the good of the country. Sure.

2. After slavery was outlawed, the outraged RW nuts of the time
bolted the Republic party and became the dominant conservative wing of the Democratic party. They stayed there until passage of the civil rights act where they bolted back to the GOP. LBJ commented that he just handed the South to the Republics when he signed it, and he did.
