I'm tired of feeling like the bad guy
How can we repair our image to the world after we betrayed their sympathy?

1. Elect a President who is 180 degrees away from the current warmonger.
I know a guy who fits that description.

6. We didn't betray their sympathy
We betrayed their trust. What trust they had left in us, anyway. Repair our image? You're talking decades of progressive leadership to take us away from the cruel imperialism we've adopted. It's far more likely we go the way of all the empires that have preceded us. Only faster.

Sorry to be a gloomy gus but that's how I see it.

8. we need to hand over all the NeoCons to th Hague to be tried for crimes against humanity, war crimes
for Weapons of mass destruction; using depleted uranium, white phosphorous on civilians, torture, etc, etc, etc...

tho some say they should be extradited to a country with the death penalty, being a Buddhist i cant advocate that, but since they cherish the death penalty upon a golden Altar.. it would be an ironic Justice

9. America's image was tarnished before we had sympathy capital
It should not take long to guess what America's image is abroad, if all of its spending goes towards its military.

America's beacon of democracy public image is probably only believed by Americans who never been out of the country.

An effort to clean up America’s image after years of sacrificing its citizens for military power will be like using a public relations firm to clean up a mafia Don's image.

10. I understand that our image has been in perpetual decline, but
When the world lent us a hand, we gave them a finger.

When I go abroad I don't like having people dislike me strictly because I am American. I don't think a new president will do it, although many of our guys are really good... I feel like the damage will take years to even start rearing.

11. And, we must mend damage to diplomat corps
Diplomat resigns to protest war - 2003

Ann Wright, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, sent a letter of resignation Wednesday to Secretary of State Colin Powell, telling him that "this is the only time in my many years serving America that I have felt I cannot represent the policies of an administration of the United States."

...

Wright is the third senior diplomat to resign in two months over the administration's Iraq policy. But in her letter, Wright also expressed her concern that the administration has ignored the threat posed by North Korea as it pursues a nuclear weapons program. Wright also criticized the lack of participation over the past several months by the administration in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and what she sees as the curtailment of civil liberties in the U.S. since the Sept. 11 attacks.

...

John Brown, a career diplomat who also resigned this month, has said there is an air of dissent in the State Department over the administration's policies. But it's rare that Foreign Service officers use public resignations as a means of protest, or an attempt to influence administration policy.

Nevertheless, the resignation of three senior diplomats is significant because the individuals had invested so many years climbing the ladder of the Foreign Service. The organization accepts very few applicants and sometimes rewards officers with their desired posting only after they've served in some of the most remote locations in the world. "To dump your career...after 20 years is a major, major step," said Robert Keeley, the former U.S. ambassador to Greece.

12. The people of the world don't view us as the bad guy.
They view our paymasters as the bad guy. HOWEVER, the longer Bush gets his way, the more at risk we are of losing any sympathy as a nation of people ruled over by a unitarian oligarchy. We can only be given so many breaks by the rest of the world.

The world will cheer with us once George is out of office and (hopefully) in jail IMO.

13. Not always my experience
I've encountered extreme resentment to America and Americans.

Actually, of all the places it was most intense, it was in an Amsterdam coffeshop talking to some kids my age. I got the impression that we as citizens are not viewed too kindly around the world. It is hard to explain that our leaders stole the election (twice) led us to war, exploited millions of people for their capitalist bosses, and we haven't stood up as a nation and said, "ENOUGH"

Personally, I think they might be right.
