on THIS DATE in BUSH HISTORY -- CHENEY'S RIDICULOUS SPEECH
On This Date in Bush History-11/24: Loony Cheney

"As Pride increases, Fortune declines." Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac, 1743

2003: VP Cheney makes a ridiculous speech today. Says Cheney, "The President was determined to solve problems, not simply pass them on to future generations." What of the deficit, one of the nation's biggest problems? Being paid down under Clinton it would rise sharply, as a burden to future generations, under Bush. The VP talks of Iraq's "weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them", saying Saddam "had a relationship with al Qaeda". The truth is no WMDs were ever found, and not one respected intelligence agency, nor the 9/11 commission, found evidence of any kind of working relationship between Saddam & al Qaeda. The VP says, "Iraq has now become the central front in the war on terror". True enough, thanks to Bush. The VP boasts of the "commitments the President made ... that the armed forces would be given every resource they need ... we've kept our word". Apparently, Mr. Cheney does not consider life-saving body armor and armored vehicles to be amongst those needed resources. The administration sent U.S. forces into harm's way with inadequate protection, prompting pleas from soldiers to do better. One soldier described crawling through scrap heaps, searching for metal to use as armor. The VP says of Bush's people, "this is one of the finest teams ever assembled by a President". Is Cheney thinking of Don Rumsfeld, criticized for the terribly planned occupation of Iraq that took so many lives? Or of Michael Brown, the Arabian horse dealer who would be put in charge of FEMA, with deadly results. Does Cheney include his own chief of staff, who will be convicted of obstruction of justice, or the White House insiders who will be convicted in the Abramoff lobbying scandal? What about top Bush aide Karl Rove, who gave up a CIA operative's ID to the press? The VP boasts of providing "Americas seniors with prescription drug coverage". Cheney does not mention the huge price tag & how billions could have been saved had the Bush administration been looking after taxpayers' interests instead of the interests of insurance companies and the drug industry. Yes, it was quite a speech. Laughable were it not so sad.
