A French judge has placed former President Jacques Chirac under formal investigation for suspected embezzlement of public funds during his time as mayor of Paris, Chirac's lawyer Jean Veil said on Wednesday.

Any French Nationals here? Is this likely for "real" or could it be trumped up evidence vis-a-vis Bushies* retribution....

I know, I know... Sometimes things are as simple as they seem...but? :shrug:
