My letter on torture and what we should do.
Torture, even the word is ugly. Bush has said over and over again that America doesn't torture, but he is playing with words. For some time he has contracted out "enhanced interrogation" to private corporations. Technically he is correct, the US is not torturing, US corporations are torturing.

It doesn't matter who is torturing, they are doing it for George Bush and that makes it no different than if he was doing it himself. Charlie Manson did not kill Sharon Tate, but he sent his people to do the deed. He was just as guilty as the ones who stabbed her to death.

Many people have expressed frustration that congress is not impeaching Bush and Cheney. I'm frustrated too, but I realize that minority leader Mitch McConnell will not allow a vote for removal to succeed. Most of all, impeachment is not sufficient punishment for the crimes of this administration. Nothing short of criminal charges would be appropriate.

Complaints related to torture were lodged against Rumsfeld when he visited France. He had to be spirited out of the country before any action could be taken against him. Once this administration is out of power, its members will run the same risk of arrest if they leave our borders. I'm all for making it just as risky for them here at home, for they have thumbed their nose at American and international law.

Could you or I defy the law time and time again and not be called to task?
