Cold front brings rain; Governor calls it an 'affirmation'
Source: Atlanta Journal--Constitution

By MIKE MORRIS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 11/15/07

Gov. Sonny Perdue said Thursday morning that he's not gloating over the fact that it rained a day after he held a prayer vigil at the Capitol.

"This is hopefully the beginning of more," Perdue said from Canada, where he is on a trade mission. "One rain won't refill the reservoirs. It is great affirmation of what we asked for."

"As we do all we can from a conservation standpoint, virtually all of us know we are dependent on rain. I am just a person who believes it comes from God," Perdue said.

Overnight rainfall totals included .14 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, .21 inch at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport and .28 inch at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

20. I love the Religious Nuts who call weather an act of God
The rest of the world who has even a little bit of grey matter to rely on for logical thought calls it Weather, and in the WINTER, we get cooler weather which can manifest ittself in rain, snow, ice and wind. It's been going on since the beginning of the earth and the rotation of the earth at it's present axis, (possibly for 6,000 years!!!).

When the Mormons go through a drought (every year in Utah and the west) they call for more vigilant tithe paying and praying. When it rains they claim that God has heard their prayers. When it doesn't, it means they haven't paid enough to the Morbot God who dictates blessings on the devotees.

We can cure global warming and drought with money, not in the coffers of the religious nuts but in the investment in reasonable, viable, scientific and realistic conservation, innovation, and research. Today I'm going to GO GREEN by not buying stuff I don't need, NOT going where I don't absolutely need to go, and NOT consuming more than I need to consume. If there's green to be had, let it be in my bank account.

2. I'm sure it's purely coincidental that he held this prayer vigil...
on a day before a massive cold front was about to come through....:eyes: Sonny, you could have saved your state a hell of a lot of money if you'd have just prayed about six months ago.

...then called for his "prayer rally?"

This reminds me of all those old-time adventure stories where the Westerners "amaze the natives" and get honored as gods by calling on the sun to darken...all the while knowing that an eclipse is about to take place that very moment. :eyes:

Can we get him to pray for continued drought conditions? That might help.

Doesn't say much for your faith now, does it, governor?

Better organize another one...you all could use a nice long soak. Ask for more next time.

this was no miracle. less than a quarter of an inch implies God was running out of water...

Oh Sonny, Sonny, Sonny... way to glamorize yourself. How about you just pray and not tell everyone and then give private thanks for God, and God alone - oh that's right, you're a dirty politician capitalizing on the 'god card'.

19. Miracles happen when a shift in perception happens.
for me a miracle would be that the people of the world, one person at a time, has a shift in their perception of war or global warming. For many, that shift in perception has already happened. For too many, that shift has not occurred. When we reach a critical mass, our collective consciousness will shift and that will be a miracle. Because then the war will end and we will begin to work to change the climate.

A miracle doesn't happen because some fundamental christian politician plays god.

31. He should have prayed for a plumber instead
According to another article in the AJC, a faulty water meter at the Ga. governor's mansion leaked 17,500 gallons of water while Sonny was praying for rain. See http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2007/11/13/leak_1114.html

"That's equivalent to two months of indoor water use for a typical four-person home, the American Water Works Association says...state officials are keeping records in case they need to contest the next water bill."

Why would they need to contest the bill? Won't God intercede on the governor's behalf again?

A few decades? A century? Until the oil runs out and they get tired, scared, and hungry?

Actually, no one can predict the detials, so it might be something very different from burning at the stake...but the results will be the same.
