More Problems With Something Made in China
It was announced this morning that Nike is recalling 230,000 football helmet chin straps after 18 players have been injured due the chin straps breaking on the helmets. It seems that most of the injuries were minor with them just being cuts and bruises, but at least one player received a broken nose. I understand 18 is a small number, but things from China keep having problems.

I have said it once before and I will say it again. Companies need to stop getting their items from China. I do not hate China, but too many things are coming from China that seems to be faulty. Something should at least be done to make China produce better products.

1. I'd love to ban all Chinese goods, but I'd be naked, hungry, and bored
I do hope that this creates a new market for "made in the usa" and "sweatshop free" goods. I'll vote with my dollar.

2. No, compaines need to test their own products, regardless of where they were made.

"Made in China" isn't a guarantee that something is crap any more than "Made in America" is a guarantee that it's good. In this case you can't even be sure it was the fault of the Chinese. It may be that Nike designed them improperly. Or specified substandard materials. It may be that the Chinese substituted substandard materials for good ones, but you just can't know for certain based on this article. I'm tired of American companies blaming their Chinese contractors for their problems because they fail to test the products themselves. It's lazy quality control.

Edit: clarity.

3. You did see recently where a large US corporation had to apologize to China?
Because the fault was not in the Chinese manufacture of the products that were recalled, but in the design specifications that came from the US?

These issues would not be a problem if the US corporations that are manufacturing things in China still did their due diligence in regards to having things made in China (or elsewhere).

And, then people that inspect imports did their due diligence - if they even have the manpower to conduct inspections.

80% of the toys sold in the US are made in China. 80% of the recalled toys have been from toys made in China. The 10% that are still made in the US have less than a 10% recall rate, while made outside the US and Chinese actually have the highest recall rate.

I'm not saying that Chinese manufacturers don't need to make a lot of improvements - they do. But, US corporations need to start demanding it of them.
