Toys for Tots: Important Toy Recall Announcement

Important Toy Recall Announcement

http://www.toysfortots.org/news/details.asp?ID=35

1. In response to recent events that have taken place in the toy industry, and in preparation
for the 2007 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign, Marine Toys for Tots Foundation
is taking this opportunity to enlist the aid of millions of caring Americans in the identification
and screening of toys that are safe to pass to children of less fortunate families.

The toys identified to date as potentially unsafe may be found at the below listed website links:

Mattel toy recall list: http://www.mattel.com/safety/us/

Detailed SKU’s: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/14/fyi/main3166371.shtml

Added 8/23/07: http://children.webmd.com/news/20070823/more-toy-recalls-due-to-lead-paint

Added 9/5/07: http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/manufacturing/2007-09-04-mattel-toy-recall-lead_N.htm

2. Toys for Tots does not purchase any toys/gifts directly from overseas vendors or manufacturers.
All toy/gift purchases are from reputable, U.S. companies that will be working diligently to ensure
none of the items identified in the above links are included in any presentations to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

3. Local Toys for Tots coordinators will be accepting, inspecting, and sorting millions of toys in
preparation for distribution during the 2007 Toys for Tots campaign. With the combined efforts of
our toy vendors, the watchful eyes of our donors, and the careful inspection by our Toys for Tots
coordinators, we will, once again, be able to successfully distribute safe gifts to America’s children.

1. I think I'm going to support the Toys for Teens program this year.

I think teenagers are ignored during the holidays and it has to really suck to not get anything! Especially homeless teens!
Thats a huge burden all by itself. I don't have a lot of $$ but I can probably swing a DVD, CD or a gift card and a warm hat
and mittens or a T-Shirt. They are still kids too after all.

'Toys for Teens' is a http://communications.bestbuy.com/communityrelations/toys_for_teens.asp">Best Buy program run in partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

Together, we created Toys for Teens in 2001 to provide gifts for teens who were often overlooked
during the holiday season.

The program's goal is to highlight the need for holiday gifts appropriate for older children.

* Make a cash donation at the register in your local Best Buy store
or by clicking here between November 11 and December 29.

* Buy a Dreamworks Animation DVD between November 11 and December 8 and $3 will be donated

2. That's cool
You're right, they're still kids too and they shouldn't be forgotten.

4. I wonder if I could fix up the three bicycles
we have and donate them? Maybe they just want new stuff
donated though, although one bike has barely been used.
There used to be a neurosurgeon in the next town who fixed
up bikes and donated them to kids in need. Maybe I can find him!

I'll have to consult my son on what CD's would be cool too. :P
