Need a distraction? Try reading The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
It's not a new book, but it was new to me and I must admit (...she looks down sheepishly...) that when I started reading it this morning I simply couldn't put it down..... it was the first flight of fantasy that has completely engrossed me in years...! It gave me 8 hours of total blissful respite from the evils of the bush misadministration.

That in itself makes this book worthy of a recommendation.

1. It's a wonderful book and so are the other two in the trilogy.
I read it to my son when it first came out about 10 years ago or so. You have a lot to look forward to with the other two books.

2. A friend loaned me the book Friday. I will return it tomorrow and check the library for the second
in the trilogy!

I'm a bookworm, always have been - but it has been many years since a book so captivated me that I simply couldn't put it down.

I mean - it's Sunday and since I had to work OT on Saturday I still had the laundry to do, floors and bathrooms to clean, etc and yet I sat and read all day long...... Can't wait to start book two!

4. Must be something a bit more than the average romance novel, I reckon.
I could use that.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I could use a respite.
