Apocalyptic Imagery on the Economy
Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) is no amateur when it comes to florid political statements but he outdid himself in his economic rhetoric at yesterday’s Joint Economic Committee hearing with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. “Frankly, I think we are facing what are essentially the four horsemen of economic crisis: falling housing prices, lack of confidence in creditworthiness, the weak dollar and high oil prices,” he said in his opening statement.

To recap, the four horsemen in the New Testament’s Book of Revelation represent conquest, war, famine and death. Real Time Economics welcomes suggestions on the most appropriate mapping of Mr. Schumer’s four economic horsemen to the originals.

3. Well,,,
1. House prices have declined by 10-20% where I live.

2. Mortgage scandals and defaults nationwide are creating a crisis of confidence in lending markets.

3. The dollar? It is at historic lows against foreign currencies. Historic lows - as in never lower. You are working for less - everything you own has been devalued.

4. And last but not least,,,, record high oil prices. Vaseline and KY jelly are still affordable though.

How does that $300 tax refund check look now dipwads?

I look at it like this.

The US is like a bad member of a community. They went to the neighborhood bank and said "hey pal,,, how about a loan? You know I am good for it." Wink wink. Nod to thuggish looking group of ex-cons lurking in the corner.

They get the money and proceed to get drunk and make lots of noise shooting off fireworks, starting fires, getting into fights, killing the neighbors, breaking stuff and parking semis on the front lawn.

Now the whole town is pissed at them and has raised the rates.

4. But, according to this idiot, Alan Greenspan has served the economy "so well"

Give it up, Schumer. You're not fooling anybody in pretending to be an opposition party to the right wing.
