(Rasmussen) Ron Paul Up to 6%, Huckabee and Romney Down
"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Mike Huckabee back in single digits and Ron Paul gaining another percentage point of support in the very unsettled race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Rudy Giuliani remains on top with 23% support from Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide. Fred Thompson earns 16% of the vote followed by John McCain at 13% and Mitt Romney at 11%. Mike Huckabee is now the top pick for 9% while Ron Paul’s support has inched up to 6%. No other Republican tops 1% (see recent daily numbers).

The muddled state of the GOP race may reflect growing frustration with the available choices. Rudy Giuliani is now viewed favorably by just 63% of GOP voters, matching his lowest rating of the year. Mitt Romney, who has a growing lead in New Hampshire, is viewed favorably by 54% of Republican voters nationwide, his lowest rating in several months. Fred Thompson is viewed favorably by 53%, his lowest total ever."

Hey, look everybody--The GOP still really, really seems to dislike its field of candidates. This gives me the jollies, how 'bout you? Why not take a moment out of your daily Dem-candidate bashing to gloat over these losers (and the fact that the anti-war candidate is the only one gathering some momentum)?

1. I'm worried that Paul will divide Dem voters
seduced by the anti-war message and willing to ignore the other ills.

2. Oh, not to worry--the powers-that-be will never let him win--
he's just reflecting the fact that a pretty good chunk of GOP voters aren't into endless neocon adventurism. Now imagine how well he would do if he were a sane, younger, mainstream guy--THEN I would worry.

4. what makes you think he can't be a third party candidate
in just enough states to skew the results?

5. Why would he? He would know he couldn't win in just a few states.
I don't think he has any plans to run third-party anyway.

7. Why would he? For the same reason he's running as
a GOP candidate. To make sure his views are part of the national dialogue.
I'd argue that he knows he won't win the GOP nomination already. So he's already proven its not about winning.

8. What makes you think he would?
He's at 6% and that's among his likely supporters.
