Did anyone else hear Rep Debbie Wasserman Schultz on WINZ (Miami) this morning?
The radio host buttonholed Wasserman Schultz for about 10 minutes, asking about what was happening with House Judiciary Committee, on which she sits, on Kucinich's HR 333. She barely stayed to answer, begging off *to go to a meeting*. It was about 7:50 am.

She is desperately clutching the leadership's agenda:

1. Impeachment 'would take 14 months'. (??)

2. It 'would divide the country'.

3. 'We wouldn't be able to get anything done.'

4. We 'don't want to play political games.'

5. People 'just need to get behind Hillary Clinton and elect more Democrats.'

I am furious with what she said.

She went on to *boast* about what legislation they have passed, and I was shouting at the radio: BUT THE REPUBLICANS ARE FILIBUSTERING EVERYTHING AND BUSH IS VETOING ANYWAY AND YOU CAN'T OVERRIDE!!!!! SO WHAT IS THIS THAT *YOU ARE ACCOMPLISHING*??

AREN'T YOU AFRAID OF WHAT BUSH/CHENEY WILL DO IN THE NEXT 14 MONTHS IS WE DO NOT STOP THEM???

She mouthed the typical platitudes: 'We understand that the American people get it.'

OH, WE GET IT, DEBBIE; IT'S DEMOCRATS LIKE YOU IN CONGRESS THAT DON'T GET IT!!!

OUR COUNTRY MAY LIE IN SMOKING RUINS AFTER 14 MORE MONTHS OF BUSH/CHENEY!!!!

And this woman sits on the House Judiciary Committee.

AARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Local residents then began immediately calling in to WINZ to talk about this Wasserman Schultz 10-minute interview (She said she *had to run to a meeting...*) (it was ~7:50 am)... Believe me, the callers are ANGRY WITH HER!

This is on her web site this morning:

Statement from Rep. Wasserman Schultz regarding H.Res. 333

November 6, 2007

(Washington, DC) -- “Impeachment is the most severe action that the Congress can take against the Executive Branch and the consideration of articles of impeachment must not be taken lightly. The charges outlined in H.Res. 333 calling for the impeachment of Vice-President Cheney are serious and deserve more than an hour of debate without the ability to present evidence. As such, I have voted to refer this resolution to the House Judiciary Committee so that the charges outlined can be heard and debated.

“Today, Congress also overrode the President’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act, which among other things authorizes $2 billion for Everglades restoration as well as hurricane recovery and beach erosion funds. We are currently fighting to pass –against the President’s objections and his veto, legislation that would provide health insurance for an additional 3.5 million American children, 230,000 more insured children in Florida alone. Working to end the War in Iraq, expanding SCHIP, passing the first increase in the minimum wage in 10 years, passing the largest veterans health care increase in the 77-year history of the VA, and passing a roughly $1 billion increase in Everglades funding, all of these are issues that Congress has been addressing since the Democratic-led 110th Congress began in January.”

“Impeachment is a lengthy process which would divide Congress and this nation even more deeply than we are divided right now. Referring this resolution to the House Judiciary Committee is the constitutionally appropriate process that should be pursued.”

Vote this woman OUT and put in a true progressive Democrat!

The interview with Wasserman Schultz can be heard at this link. (Scroll down to Hour 1, 2, 3 of the show.) It should be near the end of Hour 2.

I have honestly HAD IT with these people.

1. i think wassserman-schultz is a nina ricci, err, i mean nancy pelosi protege´
... the first time i heard nancy pelosini say, "impeachment is off the table" she was here in florida on a stage with debbie wasserman-schultz and other congress people. i almost dropped my jaw when pelosini said that ... wasserman-schultz has stuck to the pelosini script. she is still doing so. and the fact that she would not stay at the radio station makes me wonder whether in her inners she is in any way conflicted by what she knows to be the right thing to do: IMPEACHMENT ... and her faithfulness to the pelosini script: OFF-THE TABLEAU.

Firm, but polite of course. The replies I have received are not encouraging -- but she must be getting an earful. At meet-ups drum circles, jam sessions I go to, everybody wants impeachment.

4. They could have started impeachment proceedings in 2005, they knew Bush/Cheny lied
They impreached Clinton over lying about a blow job.

They are afraid of something, or do not want to tell us something, or they are lazy cowards. I can't figure which one it is, but I spend most of my day pissed off at what they don't do and at the excuses they come up with for not doing it.

Greed is blinding. They are so insulated within their own world, they could never live out here in reality. You saw how desperate Lieberman was to keep hold on his power. There is more to this than serving the people. We're currently a thorn in their sides.

6. And what is dividing the country....70% against and 30% for...
why the war in Iraq. And who is responsible for that war...bush and cheney. So why would impeachment of cheney cause the country to be divided.

I will say it over and over, whether we get the votes to really impeach cheney or not, all the filth and illegal activities of this sub-human will come out and the country will see what kind of person stole office.

17. Seems Like She Left Out One Of Their False Meme Mantras
Oh yes, the "we don't have the votes" one. Perhaps it's getting around that we may well have the votes.

Still, all the other mantras work pretty well to block one's ethical and patriotic urges.

Because we wouldn't want to "divide the country" -- into fascists vs. non-fascists, or torturers vs. non-torturers, or eveen Constitutional defenders vs. its attackers.

I imagine all strategerists agree that such a debate would be "bad optics," especially over such a "lengthy process."

Impeachophobia: Positively Orwellian.

21. "The people, when they put us into office last November, they did NOT ask us to impeach the VP."
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 03:02 PM by seafan
Ed said he did not ask her to come on his program... she called in and asked to be interviewed. Keep calling her, people! We've got her on the run.

Rough transcript of this interview follows, paraphrasing as best as I can:

November 8, 2007

DWS: .... so, if we impeach Cheney, THEN what? We still have Bush in office. We will squander the time we have.

Ed: So are you telling me it's just about November of 08?? *The timing*??

DWS: We need to tough out the next 12 months and deliver the new direction for Americans so they will reward us by reelecting us, and beating more repub opponents.

If we pursue impeachment of the VP, we will spiral downward and fall right into repub hands... they are the ones that defeated that motion to table, so that they could embarrass us, claiming then that we never get anything done because we were bogged down with this. The media would be all over it...

It's all about timing. If there were 2.5 yrs left in his adm, we MIGHT could do something.

ED: Wait! You're worried about *the media*? You could stop this country from going to war in Iran by impeaching that nut in the VP's office. So *timing* is what defending our Constitution depends on?? Or making sure the 3 branches of gov't do their jobs??

DWS: Polls don't even put impeachment in the top 10. It doesn't even come up...

Ed: IT DOES come up! What polls even ASK about impeachment. Cheney broke the law!

<<<<<<<< GGGOOOOOOOO ED!!!!!!! >>>>>>>>>

Ed: I care about the constitution, the rule of law.

DWS: If you care about the Constitution, allow us to concentrate on our oversight role, going forward on FISA, torture, .....we wouldn't be able to have those hearings if we were in impeachment hearings.

Ed: But it's what the people WANT!! They sent you to DC to stand up against what Bush/Cheney are doing! Cheney is pushing for war in Iran!

DWS: Ed, are you kidding me???? They're not interested in impeachment. People want us to remain focused on the agenda of passing legislation... health care, minimum wage...

ED: NO, I'm not kidding you.
Why you won't get them out of office... because you are too focused on legislation you want to get passed??

DWS: Ed, Ed, we have 12 months to get this right. We need to wait for a majority.

ED: I am restraining myself, struggling to restrain myself with you, but you are wrong on these issues.

DWS: But, Ed, we can't do this because impeachment would block out the sun.

Ed: The war is the number 1 issue!!!! You have not stopped Bush/Cheney from waging it!

DWS: We have passed bill after bill with timelines, but the Senate won't follow through on it. (She totally blames the Senate here.)

Ed: But you don't have to bring it to the floor!
The country wants redeployment, but that's not what they've gotten!

DWS: We are going to pass bridge funding. If the senate chooses not to do it, so be it.

DWS: I believe Robert Wexler is off base. If we impeach the VP, then what, impeach Bush, then impeach Condi Rice??

Ed: Congresswoman, I've gotta tell you that inside the beltway, the Dems are out of touch with America!

DWS: We want to concentrate on health care. thats' why founding fathers created 3 branches of govt.. and we need to focus on priorities of the American people, but impeachment is not even in the top 5.

Ed: You just made my point. The 3 branches are not working to rein in this administration!

END

This was explosive. She will not be able to defend not standing up for us.

A very good question a caller made.... "if impeachment was not what they were sent to do last November, why did Pelosi immediately take it off the table? You don't take a *non-issue* off the table."

26. Call Her NOW!
(I'm cross posting this from another post of mine, because I think it is helpful and important.)

I heard her interviewed on the Ed Schultz show yesterday, Nov. 8, and she was adamantly against impeaching Cheney. She spouted the party line about all the reasons it wasn't practical, not enough time, too distracting, yada, yada, yada.

HOWEVER, she kept coming back to the fact that in her district, there just wasn't ANY support for impeachment. This is where people can make a difference like no other time in their lives. CALL. WRITE A LETTER. Not an email. Get your friends, relatives, etc. If you live in her district, and you can put together a few hundred phone calls, you can not overestimate the effect you will have.

It was clear in the interview, that she has made a political calculation to stick with the so-called leadership, because she views the risk from a backlash of angry constituents as very low.

Change her mind! Don't be angry in the phone calls, but DO be passionate. If she gets enough calls, she will change her mind. (It is often easier to get thru to one of the local offices.)

Her phone number again: Washington: 202-225-7931; Aventura FL:305-936-5724;
Pembroke Pines FL: 954-437-3936.

Call NOW! YOU CAN MAKE HISTORY!

33. I've been writing her every day lately -- logged a few calls too.
She answered with some boilerplate drivel. I got one today. The operant sentence seems to be:
Americans have asked their political leaders to place the interests of the country first, ahead of party politics that distract us from improving the lives of our citizens and the security of our country.

What kind of bullshit is that? :banghead: This American certainly didn't ask for partisan politics, I asked for law enforcement.

28. I heard that Interview too
I heard it...Big Eddie was about to explode and Wasserman-Shultz tried every stinking cliche in book to give herself a free-pass on the deal. I thought it was odd that after the commercial break, Big Eddie said DWS called in and wanted to be on the show to tell everybody why she didn't think Impeaching Darth Vader was a good idea.

(Kinda arrogant, don't you think? "Hrmmm..I think I'll try Ed Shultz and potificate for a while on why we shouldn't impeach Cheney...."

Anyway - things to note:

Up here in Minneapolis/St Paul - my Congressman Keith Ellison remains interested in Impeaching him. Not only was Ellison one of those on the House Judiciary who co-sponsored that bill, but he's also very interested in starting up the hearings immediately.

http://fruitfly.wordpress.com/2007/11/08/keith-ellison-supports-impeaching-the-veep/

Secondly - Raw Story now has the clip between Big Eddie and Debbie W-S from Florida. I just finish re-listening to it and I felt like you did all over again.

Aaaaaaaaargggggggggggh!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to the bottom of the story here and hit the little clip for yourself.

35. Welcome to DU. I was wondering when you'd show up!
:toast:

Is it possible there's something we're missing, here?
Of course, any thread which discusses the perfidy we perceive in our elected representatives is likely to be loaded with invective, and rightly so. However, I keep wondering if there's a way to part the invective and figure this out...and what to do about it.

How is it that so many of our representatives could separately and individually come to the exact same conclusions, using essentially the exact same language? Is it that politics is really very simple, with a sharply limited corral of practical answers to a universe of difficult and complex questions, with the implied complications coming exclusively from corruption and greed?

Is it possible that the reason we hear the loud cries for redress, in the form of impeachment of cheneybush, is because we are all together in one virtual room so all we hear is each others' perfectly logical arguments?

I am pretty sure there are logical, intelligent members, right here on DU, who agree with the conclusions reached by the majority of democratic representatives but wish to spare their patience and peace so don't get into our more passionate demands for common sense.

So to my point--Would it be profitable, or possible, that we could get a sit down with a couple of reps and find out how they reached their conclusions and was there mass hypnosis, voodoo dolls, whatever, that caused them to become as they seem to us--little mirrors, cracked ones, somehow reflecting anything but a picture of good government, rule of law, integrity and ethics.

We have to figure out what happened to to such a varied group of intelligent people and what we can do to correct it and prevent future recurrences.

If they want to know why approval of congress is 11% since we
voted them in , it's not just the war we wanted them to stop
funding., we wanted them to start impeachment against Cheney
and Bush to restore the
Constitution. The Constitution is more important than
the democratic party .

If they think they're going to win democratic votes for 2008
by ignoring us, news: impeach or i'll be voting for a good
