C-SPAN. Guy saying a privileged vote can't be tabled
and that the charges against Cheney are "ludicrous", so the GOP leadership said to switch votes, let the 1 hour of debate begin, and that it will end up embarrassing the Democrats.

Anyone else listening?

I believe it's a component of a privileged vote. 1 hour debate automatically triggered by it perhaps?

4. The Democrats can't come up with 30 minutes
of compelling debate against Cheney?

19. Thirty minutes of our little speeches vs. thirty minutes of their little speeches
would not have been enough to convince the American public to support Cheney's impeachment right now -- and without that push from the public, the House is not going to vote to impeach.

We need investigations, evidence, and hearings. Public hearings, days of them, like we had during the Nixon era. Or during Clinton's Presidency. That's the only way we're going to bring the public along on this. I don't understand what Kucinich thought he could accomplish, except for some good P.R. with his followers.

20. There's nothing in the constitution about waiting for the public.
Besides, who says the public is against it?

21. The public needs to let Congress know that they are for it.
And the way for this to happen is to bring the public along on the process, and the way to do that is to have days of public hearings in front of the TV cameras.

6. It may backfire, so long as we get the message out that:
"The House actually debated and almost impeached Dick Cheney"...and keep repeating that. It's true.

people speak, and they get to have a few people speak. Then there would be a vote to impeach, which would no doubt be unsuccessful.

Why? Because we don't need a half-hour of time to make speeches, we need investigations. We need hearings. We need DAYS of hearings, not a half-hour worth of speeches, before we can bring the American public to the point where it understands and supports the need to impeach Cheney. The House isn't going to vote for impeachment until it feels pressure from its constituents, and we're not there yet. And a half hour making little speeches isn't going to put us there.
