Where is the DU indignation over no help being sent to Mexico?
Anyone who follows my posts knows I am at best neutral when it concerns Mexico. I just don't care what they do, it's a sovereign country and its none of my business. BUT When Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the FIRST responders to the scene loooong before the Feds arrived was ...Canada and MEXICO! And it wasn't token aid either.

But now into the third day of a disaster twice to three times as great as Katrina, I have heard of NO US aid being sent, let alone emergency personnel and medical supplies. That is to be expected from our present government, but is NOT expected that not even the bleeding hearts that abound on DU have taken notice other than to use the 'event' as another example of global Warming. There have been long threads whining about how 'hurtful' such things as 'has no balls' is. Obama is being mistreated, Hillary is being mistreated ad nauseum.

Where are OUR candidates? Why are they not screaming for some help being sent? Where is the fucking vaunted 'feel good' Dennis Kucinich? Where are the DUers? You sonsabitches that want to make 11 million illegals citizens because they are such wonderful additions to the country and the planet-WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!

All it will take is 10-20,000 phone calls to the Congress-slimes and suddenly it will be front page, maybe even something done. Make the damned call(s)...it is the very goddam least we can do for the help Mexico gave us after Katrina.

1. The USS Mercy should be on its way
but it wil not until they are shamed into acting, you are right

As to the shame... the story is not big news, even though it should be

It is just one more sign of global warming

For me... I will see if the Mexican Red Cross has FINALLY set the donation page.

If not will see if the ICRC has a fund

For MANY reaosns I will not give a red cent to the ARC

He would rather just scream for others to help....

7. They are
the army, the red cross (disaster, EMS Rescue, paratroop service) has molbilized

Federal Services such as the DIF was mobilized immediately as well as Civil Defense

You hate brown people that much?

And tell me... you DO know the Mexican Red Cross sent personnel across the border, and the Mexican Navy helped clean the mess...

Of course not, the American Press has not shown you any of that.

After all we handled Katrina alone (Scoff) and them Canadians, Mexicans, Norwegians, Brits, et al were a figment of my and my Senator Imagination.

13. American Red Cross Response
WASHINGTON, Friday, November 02, 2007 — The American Red Cross is reaching across the border to provide $50,000 to the Mexican Red Cross to assist their emergency response to flooding that has affected more than 800,000 people. Unusually heavy rains caused rivers to overflow their banks in the southern Mexican state of Tabasco which was already waterlogged after Hurricanes Dean and Felix.

14. Thank you
And global warming for many on these blogs only appears to be a political issue to use against others. I agree, we must help Mexico and I will make that call.

21. READ These accounts and then...
Note particularly the entry about half-way down...the one about the need for aid? Still want to discuss whether it is PC to say some woman lacks balls? Or get worked up because some jackass politician said something silly or inane about your candidate?

...or are the members of DU simply another flavor of their hated Repugant counterparts...all gas, self-indulgant whining little twits? It's your call.

17. Believe me, they'll get help...
VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico - Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans fled a flooded region of the Gulf coast Friday, jumping from rooftops into rescue helicopters, scrambling into boats or swimming out through murky brown water. President Felipe Calderon called the flooding in Tabasco state one of Mexico's worst recent natural disasters, and pledged to rebuild.

A week of heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, drowning at least 80 percent of the oil-rich state. Much of the state capital, Villahermosa, looked like New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, with water reaching to second-story rooftops and desperate people awaiting rescue.

I swear it takes a year off my life. I'm picking my rants more carefully these days. Please don't mistake it for apathy toward the mexican people. All positive energies headed that way now.

19. I don't specifically remember
Canada and Mexico helping out during Katrina but I know for a fact they were not the first responders. The first responders were regular Americans. Texans, Oklahomans, etc. that loaded up trucks with water and food and drove down as far as they could go.

Remember, you cannot just barge in with aid. First, aid must be offered to the affected country and accepted. Then it has to be organized. Aid organizations that are already established are the perfect entities to filter aid thru since they have the ability and the knowledge to get it where it is needed.

20. Sigh
It breaks my heart that we can't/won't aid our neighbor, but I'm not surprised. Aid can't even make it as far south as NOLA. Perhaps Mexico doesn't even want our assistance having witnessed that debacle.
