There is No Debate Except for Torture Apologists

1. Waterboarding is a torture technique. Period. There is no way to gloss over it or sugarcoat it. It has no justification outside of its limited role as a training demonstrator. Our service members have to learn that the will to survive requires them accept and understand that they may be subjected to torture, but that America is better than its enemies and it is one’s duty to trust in your nation and God, endure the hardships and return home with honor.

2. Waterboarding is not a simulation. Unless you have been strapped down to the board, have endured the agonizing feeling of the water overpowering your gag reflex, and then feel your throat open and allow pint after pint of water to involuntarily fill your lungs, you will not know the meaning of the word.

Waterboarding is a controlled drowning that, in the American model, occurs under the watch of a doctor, a psychologist, an interrogator and a trained strap-in/strap-out team. It does not simulate drowning, as the lungs are actually filling with water. There is no way to simulate that. The victim is drowning. How much the victim is to drown depends on the desired result (in the form of answers to questions shouted into the victim’s face) and the obstinacy of the subject. A team doctor watches the quantity of water that is ingested and for the physiological signs which show when the drowning effect goes from painful psychological experience, to horrific suffocating punishment to the final death spiral.

Waterboarding is slow motion suffocation with enough time to contemplate the inevitability of black out and expiration –usually the person goes into hysterics on the board. For the uninitiated, it is horrifying to watch and if it goes wrong, it can lead straight to terminal hypoxia. When done right it is controlled death. Its lack of physical scarring allows the victim to recover and be threaten with its use again and again.

3. If you support the use of waterboarding on enemy captives,
you support the use of that torture on any future American captives.

Ironically, my decision was helped by the piling on a lot of Dems on Nader. Sure, the real bad guy here is the guy who fought to make seatbelts mandatory and who pointed out the obvious.


I don't mind politics, and I don't mind the inherent bullshit that is part of the political process. What I do mind is to have the feeling that I have been had, and specially after pouring my sweat working for Dem campaigns, as I thought it was the right thing to do in 2000 and 2004.

One thing is having to hold my nose as I have voted for as long as I have been of age, because honestly there have been few candidates that were even close to what I consider a proper liberal ideology. I am tired of compromising, if all I am getting in return is getting laughed at by both the Dems and GOPers. At least I knew what to expect from the GOPers, and I respect them for that. This whole republican-lite from the Dems is as much as I can take. No more I will waste my time and effort.

And to all those appaisers that are to justify these assholes through thick and thin. Screw you, you are part of the god damned problem....

I can't wait to get the hell out of here. This country is fucked and finished. There is no longer any question in my mind that whatever republic I pledge allegiance to through high school, is in no more. It breaks my heart, and maybe it is part of the fact that there is a constant in history: all good things must come to an end. Who knows, maybe the Clinton years was our Pax Americana. But now if I look back, the past 7 years have been a continuous circling of the proverbial drain. And we just need to get flushed. Either people do something about it, very unlikely given the tolerance to maintain the status quo by the American people, or we just deserve to down the irrelevance route in world history. Hopefully it does not involve a bang, and if it does we manage to only hurt ourselves not the rest of the people in this wonderful world that have done nothing to deserve getting stained by our shit.


If a petulant asshole, who has been wrong about everything, all he has to do to get his way is say how if he doesn't get his toy he is going to cry and made a fuss about it, then this is no longer a democracy but a kingdom. And if I have to put with such bullshit, I might as well move to Europe. At least they get universal health care, beautiful people-friendly cities, and much better night life than the lame bullshit that passes for the bar/club scene in this country. Oh, and cheap decent wine without all the pretentious crap that justifies with a straight face a $50 tag on a mixed grape juice that would get you shot in a traditional wine region in the old country.

22. Let me ask something - I see so much of an Israel push for the

bombing of Iran. Was there an Israel push for the bombing and invasion of Iraq? Someone placed/arranged/got pro-Israel people into the DOD and some say those DOD people (one in jail and others coming up for trial) are connected to AIPAC? Question: AIPAC appears to be, in part, a think tank lobbyist, public relations arm with Israel as the primary benefactor. If their people were in the DOD and said to be on Rumsfelds team, did they have anything to do with torture? I find it difficult to believe the torture policy is just a CIA thing - since the prisons are run by the military. So, if AIPAC is in anyway involved in the military operations, are they involved in having a say about torture? Or are they just too busy setting up other steps to help war? If we find out that there they are involved in the operation of the Niger documents, Plame outing, and the things linked in the other thread of stuff coming out today - subpoenas for Rice, Hadley, and more - they the question is - is support for AIPAC only neo-con as implied when people call them the neo-con AIPAC or are Dems also members? Can it be said that there are neo-con Dems? Like Joe?
