MSM offers confusing headlines on Dems' position
CNN: Democrats back away from budget battle with Bush:

Rep. David Obey, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said the decision to drop defense spending from the bill was a sign of the Democrats' willingness to compromise.

"We do not feel an obligation to make the president's desire to cherry pick as easy as possible," Obey said.


Bloomberg: Democrats Defy Bush, Combine Domestic Spending, Veterans' Care:

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, a Wisconsin Democrat, scoffed at Republican objections to what he has called ``procedural niceties,'' saying it isn't unusual for lawmakers to combine some of the bills needed to fund the federal government before forwarding them to the president.
