Parton Sang for Wagoner in Final Hours
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 11:18 PM by whereismyparty
How sweet/sad...I believe Porter Wagoner was who she wrote "I Will always Love You" for. She talked about it on Larry King a couple of years ago.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Dolly Parton said Monday she feels like a part of her died along with her old duet partner, Porter Wagoner. But she said she was grateful that she was able to spend a few final hours with the man who launched her career before he succumbed to cancer Sunday.

''Part of him will always live through me and my music as he was my first big break,'' Parton said.

The 80-year-old Grand Ole Opry star and showman died of lung cancer Sunday in a Nashville hospice, after being transferred there Friday from a hospital.

Parton said she was there with his family, sang for him and prayed with him.

''It felt good that I had the opportunity to say goodbye properly,'' Parton said...

1. At the risk of sounding very soppy
thanks for posting this. It's the sweetest tribute I think I've ever read. Dolly Parton is a SAINT!

"It costs alot to look this cheap."

7. Dolly is an angel on earth.
I've bawled three times today. First, Tyler Perry's new movie "Why did I get married" and then this, and then a while ago watching the Designing Women episode where Charlene had her baby and Dolly was a angel that led a 102 year old woman to heaven while "Somewhere Out There" played.

Drat! My face will look like a balloon tomorrow!! I a cursed with such a tender heart.

9. That's a good thing, JeanGrey.
The tender heart, I mean...not the swollen face...

We all have days like those, but they can be kinda' nice and cathartic in a way. I mean, there's nothin' like a good cry or two...or three, as the case may be.

30. "Olivia" I remember that episode when it aired originally.
that's how well I remember it, and Charlene named the baby Olivia, I think without even knowing about the elderly African American woman who was peacefully dying.

in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" if I recognized her correctly.

10. Dolly had her best role in "Steel Magnolias".
Remember her telling Annelle about one of her "friends".

"Now there's a story. Her husband got killed in WWII, and her son got killed in Vietnam. I'm telling you, when it comes to suffering, she's right up there with Liz Taylor".

ROTFLMAO!!

Or "I don't trust people who do their own hair, I don't think it's normal".
Or "I haven't left the house with lyrca on these thighs since I was 14" to which Claree said "YOU WERE RAISED RIGHT".

Or my favorite - "I lost my radio, by throwing it against the wall when I couldn't find where the batteries went. Of course, I know now I was suffering from Pre Menstral Syndrome...............

Such a wonderful movie.

3. Damn, if that don't beat all...
Here I am tearin' up like a little girl...

I remember their Biz commercials where they told about the towels in the laundry detergent box...

And their wild git-ups...

21. I was just remembering the same thing!
I remember Dolly's honey-sweet voice saying, "But you can't buy them. You can only get them....in boxes of Biz."

So sexy. Dolly was my first celebrity crush.

28. Duz, not Biz
Those ads left an indelible impression because I had never seen people dressed like that before. Biz was a laundry booster, Duz was a detergent. Easily confused.

"Mmm, this is great tasting tuna!"

12. "I Will Always Love You" song
I always liked Dolly's lovely, sweet version of this song as opposed to Whitney's over-the-top version. She is a class act.

15. Dolly's (original) version makes me weep
There's obviously genuine feeling behind it.

Whitney's version always struck me as a cold vocal gymnastics demonstration.

13. Dolly Parton was a distant cousin of Porter Wagner
A very dear friend of mine, who himself has passed away, lived in the area where Dolly and Porter Wagner lived. And he said that Dolly Parton was a third of maybe as far as fifth cousin of Wagner. I can't verify it, but this man lived there in the same area so he ought to know.

33. I worked Dolly's tv show years ago, and she is the real deal.
Very sweet, genuine, truly compassionate and extremely easy to talk to. My favorite Dolly saying is when someone asked who did her hair she said "Oh, about 100 little women in Korea". She's one of my favorite people of all time. RIP, Porter - you gave us Dolly, and that was somethin'.

and Dolly was hands down the nicest according to all the people doing behind the scenes work. The worst - Sean Cassidy.
