Florida again...rape victims treated in hospitals may not get Plan B offered.

This is just unbelievable. You are more likely to get the pills if you are treated in a rape crisis center. Why not a hospital? What is this? Why are women getting such shabby treatment..that they can't get contraception after being raped...and don't have it offered in hospitals.

It is almost unthinkable in this day and age that lawmakers would have to have a bill to force facilities to give women what they are entitled to have.

'Morning-after pill' for rape victims urged

State lawmakers will consider a bill requiring doctors and nurses to offer the so-called ''morning-after pill'' to rape victims.

The well-publicized case of a Tampa rape victim who was denied emergency birth control exposes a little-known fault line in Florida's treatment of sexual assault: Whether a victim gets medication to prevent pregnancy depends on where she ends up after the attack.

Rape victims treated at hospitals instead of specialized crisis centers frequently are not offered emergency contraception, advocates say, even though it has been available over the counter at major drugstores since last year. In the state-recommended forensic exam after a sexual assault, offering the medication is optional.

But outrage over the Tampa case could give momentum to a bill filed by two South Florida lawmakers demanding that doctors and nurses make emergency birth control available to rape victims.

''I'm not going to give you the first name of my client, but the law should be named after her,'' said attorney Vic Moore, who is representing the 21-year-old Tampa woman.

And this Dennis Baxley, good "Christian" lawmaker says:

Rep. Dennis Baxley, a leading conservative voice, said his belief that life begins at conception would preclude his support.

Baxley is a close friend of Jeb's. He was in charge of education policy in Florida, pushed the gun law that lets you shoot anyone anywhere, and tried to get a bill passed to keep a watch on "liberal" professors.

I have heard the same thing here. I am concerned about our area's doctors not being very female friendly. If I were youger, I would change doctors. I don't think mine, a woman, is at all concerned with women's rights.

4. Do the police have a choice of where to bring a victim, or

do they automatically go to the ER?

I know that where I live, if the police respond and pick someone up and the person either obviously needs or requests medical treatment, they have to take them directly to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. This applies to suspects as well as victims. Anyone who even utters the word "hospital" or anything of the kind has to be brought in, even if they are full of crap (which happens a lot).

If that's true in Florida (and I have no idea if it is), then hospitals should be legally required to provide the meds, bc the victim has to go there. If not, then all rape victims should be routed to rape crisis centers - however, these centers would have to be fully medically staffed to handle anything that came in the door...

My former legislator whose office gave sermons, offered to pray for me...is now a district judge. Cause for alarm. There are a lot of judges with those rigid views now throughout Florida.
