Witch Fire Update: 145,000 acres burned, 0% contained, 600 structures destroyed, 300 damaged
http://sosdfireblog.blogspot.com/

The Witch Fire is now 145,000 acres and 0 % contained.

The cause is under investigation. 600 structures have been destroyed (500 residences, 50 outbuildings and 100 commercial properties). 300 structures have been damaged (250 residences, 75 commercial properties and 50 outbuildings)

There has been 7 injuries to firefighters and 1 injury to a civilian. Communities threatened: San Diego, Poway, Ramona, Escondido, Lakeside, Valley Center, San Marcos, Rancho Santa Fe.

Currently there are 89 engines, 9 fire crews, 10 dozers, 2 water tenders -- about 625 firefighters.

The ICP has been moved to Kit Carson Park (at Kit Carson Park and Bear Valley Parkway).

6. Not likely...
...as I was joking with my mom (one of the few Democrats in the area -- there are lots of conservative retirees living in planned retirement communities up there), who got evacuated this morning -- if you need a reason to look on the bright side, that area is too white, too well-off, and too Republican for the White House to give them the New Orleans treatment.

4. It was originally the Witch Creek Fire...
...in northeast San Diego County east of Ramona. Then a second fire started just east of Escondido (near the Wild Animal Park), known for a short time as the San Pasquale Fire. But the Witch Creek Fire moved rapidly westward and merged with the San Pasquale Fire, and their using the earlier of the two fires as the "official" name of the result.

7. I've NEVER heard firefighters use the term "0% contained" before.
And I've lived in AZ for 16 years. It's scary.
