Just thought I'd post this....Your government is still honourable! I'm referring to the Congressional Hearing on Rendition for Torture. They were questioning Mr. Maher Arar, a Canadian Muslim citizen who was picked up at New York's Kennedy Airport in 2002 and sent to Syria to be imprisoned and tortured for almost 2 years. The Canadian government officials originally sent the U.S.A. authorities incorrect information which implicated him as a terrorist suspect. They later corrected this and informed the Americans but the U.S.A., instead of sending him back to Canada, sent him to Syria. I watched quite a bit of this hearing on the web. I was impressed by the way your Congressmen acknowledged that Mr. Arar had been wronged by your government. Mr. Arar said he is still on the American "no fly" list and can't enter the U.S.A., although he has been completely exonerated by the Canadian inquiry and compensated with a payment of $10 million. One of your Congressmen said the U.S.A. government says they have additional information which points to guilt. I especially liked what Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York had to say. He said he has seen this so-called additional information and that it is absolutely NOTHING. They apparently just don't want to admit they did the wrong thing. All of the people I saw questioning Mr. Arar....even Dana Rohrabacher, the California Republican right winger, were apologetic and decent with Mr. Arar. P.S...I guess the point I'm making is that NO ONE was making excuses.
