October 27: Regional Peace Demonstrations in 11 Cities Nationwide!

http://www.codepinkalert.org/section.php?id=327">October 27: Regional Peace Demonstrations in 11 Cities Nationwide!

People everywhere want the war to end, but Washington has failed to take decisive action.

With each passing month, nearly 100 service-people and countless more Iraqis are killed,
some 12 billion of our tax dollars are spent, and the death and destruction continue.
Our communities – from New Orleans to Minneapolis – are neglected and suffer the consequences.

From Boston to Los Angeles, from New York to New Orleans, on October 27th the people will speak:

We want this war to end, and we want it to end now!

Our goal for the 11 regional peace demonstrations is to focus national attention on
the urgency of ending the war and to highlight the impact of war spending on domestic needs.

With your participation, October 27 will help break the gridlock in Congress and serve
as a launching of a new level of activism as we go into the next round of elections!

1. 20,000 National Guard being called up in a few days! -Argh!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071017/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/national_guard_iraq;_ylt=A0WTUehCiBZHPKsAJgis0NUE">Pentagon to alert 8 Guard units for duty

Snip-->

The announcement sometime this week will give the Guard units advanced notice of the planned
deployment schedule so that they can begin training and preparing. Also, because it looks far
into the future, there is always the possibility that plans could change, based on conditions
in Iraq.

All together, the Guard announcement would involve about 20,000 soldiers.

Specific brigades were not identified, but they will include

units from North Carolina, Oklahoma, Illinois and Hawaii,

according to officials. Some of those being alerted this week have done tours in the war zone already,
and others would be going for the first time.

5. This is totally selfish but...
couldn't they wait another week? My wedding is in one of those cities that day, pretty close to one of the marches. Bah. Just hope my wedding guests can get into the city.

6. Boston has always been pretty navigable even on demo days.
But ending wars occasionally does inconvenience folks.
Personally, I don't think we inconvenience enough of the
powerful nearly often enough in this country.

Do consider advising people to use mass transit, though.
