Is Condi Rice trying for Jon Stewart's job?
I couldn't believe she came out with this statement, and didn't see
who it applied to as well as her (ostensibly) intended subject, Vladimir Putin:

"In any country, if you don't have countervailing institutions, the power of any
one president is problematic for democratic development."

Rice apparently told this to some reporters after meeting with Russian human-rights activists.

Can she really be so blind, or was she trying to send a subtle
message to Bush? If so, it was a useless gesture, as Cheney
decides which messages Bush gets, and subtlety, even if
allowed to filter through, goes right by Bush like a photon of
light goes by a garden slug--"unnoticed" is putting it mildly.

1. None are so blind as those who will not see...

2. Condi is engaging in her usual projection and double-speak.
btw, I don't think she has a sense of humor. One I never have seen anyway, unless her shopping for $500 shoes while people were dying as a result of Katrina was a joke to her.

4. Maybe she figured it like this:
If she spent $500 on shoes, with the trickle-down effect, the money
would land in the hands of Katrina victims in due time. She was really
buying those shoes as a public service.

Or maybe not (but it wouldn't surprise me to hear that as gospel Republican thinking).

3. It's obvious she can't perform the one she has
In the same statement she also castigated the russian media for failing to challenge the government's propaganda.

But no, she ain't bright enough to appreciate subtlety, and bush as you say would miss the point completely.

5. I'm sure Condi would have brought it up during her pillowtalk with Bush. n/t
