5. This is probably not a good sign for those who want him to run
I don't think he would announce today - and I don't think he can skirt the issue any longer...

Damn I wish he would run....

59. Well I was thinking
he could skirt it by stating a date certain he will finalize/announce his decision - but if he has decided definitely NOT TO I actually hope he says so - waiting to find out one way or the other is killing me.

18. Um, yes they are.
The former vice president scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. Eastern time in Palo Alto, Calif., at the offices of the non-profit Alliance for Climate Protection, of which he is chairman. The group receives 100 percent of Gore's proceeds from the film and book versions of "An Inconvenient Truth."

A top Gore adviser said the prize — the latest in a string of awards Gore has won for his environmental work, including an Oscar in February — will not push him into running.

“My sense is that this won’t affect that calculation," said the adviser, Michael Feldman.

"He has said all along he has no plans to run for president. He’s been spending all his discretionary time on the climate crisis. This great honor will further enhance that.”

9. Didn't B Boxer say there could be a "major breakthrough" on the climate change issue?
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 11:44 AM by BattyDem
That's why he couldn't be at her fundraiser. He was traveling abroad for an urgent mission related to climate change.

The press conference is being held at the Alliance for Climate Protection offices, so it's most likely about climate change. He's also giving them his award money, isn't he? Perhaps it's about that.

I seriously doubt he would choose today to either jump in the race or give the "Sherman statement." If he did that, the publicity that climate change is currently getting because of the Nobel prize would be completely overshadowed. He's been a virtuoso in playing the press this past year, so I don't think he would be that foolish.

him run, it is only his decision if he does. I love seeing the other side bitch and moan about him shows how shallow they are. Thomm Hartman just played one of Gores speeches and Thom said how the RW bloggers are just smearing the shit out of him, Thom said the other side is just scared, what cowards and hypocrites.

37. While I'm waiting for VP Gore I'm reading some of the comments
on the petition. I found this one interesting. Number 183901:

"The candidates before us are not a viable choice for any Democrat or Republican and I am a Republican who will vote for Gore. If he runs I will personally be responsible for donating and raising $250,000 for his campaign.........guaranteed."

39. Here's another petition comment I like
Number: 183916

"I used to be a Republican, then turned Independent, and now I'm disgusted by what the Republicans have done over the last eight years. I refuse to support American dynasties, and will not vote for any Democratic candidate running today, as I do not believe any of the top three candidates are qualified to be President, much less have the personal integrity I demand in my candidate. The Republicans I simply do not trust, as every principle I found appealing in the Republican party (fiscal responsibility, states rights, limited Federal government, preservation of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, etc.) has been betrayed repeatedly. In short, Sir, you are the only candidate I would vote for in the 2008 elections, just as I did in 2000. If you do not run, I will not vote, and the Nation has no chance of having the President it needs and deserves. And that is the real tragedy - another four or more years of self-serving mediocrity."

57. I don' know that I would read anything into that. He was very focused on
the award and the IPCC. He meant we (all of the world) can go far (fixing climate change).

I know we want hope -- but I don't think taking things out of context is helpful.
