Bush Caught On Tape LYING About 2003 SOTU '16 Words'
Bush Caught on Tape Lying about 2003 SOTU '16 Words' - Media Yawns. Tenet Had It Removed from SOTU; Cheney's Office Re-Inserted It.

Yesterday, in the perjury trial of Scooter Libby in the CIA leak scandal, the audiotape was played of Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward’s June 2003 interview with Armitage in which Armitage revealed Plame’s identity.

We now know that the president was lying when he said the 16 word statement was cleared by the CIA. According to Armitage, CIA Director George Tenet had the reference removed from a speech the president gave in Cincinnati in October 2002, and tried to have it removed from the 2003 SOTU in January — but Vice Pres. Cheney over-ruled him and had the false statement reinserted into the text of the State of the Union speech.

What has largely been overlooked — except, of course, by Keith Olbermann on MSNBC’s Countdown — is that the tape also revealed that around that same time Pres. Bush and his spokesman Scott McClellan both lied outright to the public about how a false statement about Iraq’s nuclear capabilities made it into Pres. Bush’s 2003 State of the Union speech.

Well, the speech that I gave was cleared by the CIA. And, look, the thing that’s important to realize is that we’re constantly gathering data. Subsequent to the speech, the CIA had some doubts. But when I gave the — when they talked about the speech and when they looked at the speech, it was cleared. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have put it in the speech. I’m not interested in talking about intelligence unless it’s cleared by the CIA. And as Director Tenet said, it was cleared by the CIA.
– Pres. George W. Bush, July 2003

If the CIA had said take it out, we would have taken it out.
– Scott McClellan

2. I have a way of looking at Bush and telling if he's lying
If his mouth is open and sound is coming out, he's lying. He doesn't know how to tell the truth.

4. Condi told Russert that they just "forgot" that Tenent had told them to take it out
There is a scene in the documentary "Uncovered" talking about the 16 words. There show a snip of MTP from sometime in summer of 2003 where Russert asks Condi about this. She said yes, they took it out of the Oct. 2002 speech but they just "forgot" to take it out of the SOTU.

I can never find links to this interview online. I wish someone could find it.

6. I found it!
DR. RICE: First of all, the CIA did clear the speech in its entirety and George Tenet has said that. He’s also said that he believes that it should not have been cleared. And we apparently, with the—in October for the Cincinnati speech, not for the State of the Union, but the Cincinnati speech, George Tenet asked that this be taken out of the Cincinnati speech, the reference to yellow cake. It was taken out of the Cincinnati speech because whenever the director of Central Intelligence wants something out, it’s gone.

MR. RUSSERT: How’d it get back in?

DR. RICE: It’s not a matter of getting back in. It’s a matter, Tim, that three-plus months later, people didn’t remember that George Tenet had asked that it be taken out of the Cincinnati speech and then it was cleared by the agency. I didn’t remember. Steve Hadley didn’t remember. We are trying to put now in place methods so you don’t have to be dependent on people’s memories for something like that.

22. Now, now. It might not be a case of I FORGOT, it could be she never read it
From the press briefing on Iraq WMD and SOTU speech, July 22, 2003:

Q: So within the White House, the first time that the CIA concerns about the quality of the British intelligence went up to the level above your level, up to Dr. Rice, would have been with memo number two?

Mr. Hadley: I'm hesitating because, again, given you don't know what you don't, given what we put together at this point in time, that's the evidence we had. That's old --

Q: But as of memo number two, certainly Dr. Rice was aware of the concerns, the CIA --

Mr. Hadley: What we know is, again, a copy of the memo comes to the Situation Room, it's sent to Dr. Rice, it's sent -- and that's it. You know, I can't tell you she read it. I can't even tell you she received it. But in some sense, it doesn't matter Memo sent, we're on notice.

Q; Did you ever have a discussion with Dr. Rice about the quality of the British intelligence and the CIA concerns?

Mr. Hadley: Not that I can recall.

end

Etc, etc. Read and weep. I can't believe there's still a registered Republican in this country. I thought they at least prided themselves on competence. Also, by going through these press briefings carefully, the razzle-dazzle on the sourcing becomes clearer. They admit that the CIA warned them off the British source, but claim the NIE as a second source, one that they didn't want to use because it was "sensitive."

23. thanks for finding this link
It's easy to imagine how something like this would slip your mind. One day you're out warning the American people that we don't want the warning to come in the form of a mushroom cloud, and the next day you can't remember what you based that statement on. Just idle terrorizing, I suppose. When you're tossing terror threats around, it's easy to forget your sources.

16. I have always said there is MORE than enough to impeach just "lying around"
It is not at issue whether Little Boots Bushler and Murderin' Cheney have committed impeachable offenses. They have done so repeatedly and shamelessly before the world.

It is only the will and the fight the Democrats have in them, and their ability to handle the inevitable retaliations: careers ruined, people killed (and do not kid yourself, the closer CheneyBush get to impeach the more people will die by "accident", "suicide", and "terrorist attack").

FIGHT, Dems, FIGHT! Take the risk and KNOW the American People are behind you.

(their reply, probably: yeah yeah that's all well and good but YOU try opening an envelope full of government-issue anthrax and see how YOU feel)

24. Photo of bush going over draft of SOTU, line-by-line, word-by-word
http://www.whitehouse.gov/stateoftheunion/behindthescenes/05.html

Working at his (squatter's) desk in the Oval Office, (Little Boots) reviews the State of the Union address line-by-line and word-by-word.

Remember this photo? I believe it's from the 2002 SOTU. What happened between 2002 and 2003? Why was he so careful for the 2002 speech? Are we supposed to believe that the 2003 speech, which argued the case for war, was just casually written and reviewed?

And another one, with the caption:

Working at his (squatter's) desk in the Oval Office, (Little Boots) looks over one of the countless versions of his speech with Counselor Karen Hughes and Speechwriter Mike Gerson, Thursday, Jan. 24. The slow process involves dozens of people and can last many weeks.

---------------

Next pic: The chimp practices human movements and speech:

(Little Boots) prepares the State of the Union address in the family theater of the White House with senior staff Monday, January 29.

==================================

Do I see Kindasleezy Rice in that last photo?

Liars. All of them. Impeach the bush administration.

26. His speech pattern is juvenile --
"Well, the speech that I gave was cleared by the CIA. And, look, the thing that’s important to realize is..."

First sentence: The Lie.

Second sentence: The Misdirection.

He even uses the word "look" as his misdirection. The most infantile way to distract someone. "Look! Over there!"
