What would your agenda be if you were elected President?
Mine:

The first thing? Kill the stupid fucking war in Iraq.

Second: Kill that stupid fucking embargo and normalize relations with Cuba.

The third: An Equal Rights amendment stating that ALL rights belong to ALL people. No ifs, ands, buts, or exceptions. Yes, that would include an official mandate for recognition of gay marriage.

The fourth: Universal, government-funded health care.

The fifth: Universal, government-funded school lunches (and breakfasts, and carry-home dinners). NO child should ever be hungry in the richest country in the world.

The sixth: A yearly Federal tax on automobiles, based on gasoline mileage for that model. Any car with mileage below the industry-wide average pays NOTHING. (PS: That would cost me big for one of my cars, but I'd be happy to pay it.)

The seventh: The receipts from that automobile tax to be used to provide homeowners and businesses with rooftop photovoltaic panels for generating electricity.

That would take care of my first seven days in office.

I could go on, but I'm tired. I'll be back tomorrow to read YOUR ideas, and will be very interested in doing do.

4. Repeal Taft-Hartley

4. universal health care would be number one, all the cool countries already have it
equal rights is something we (should) already have, no ifs, ands, or buts, if we are not acting like we have it by now, it ain't getting done in seven days, but of course i would expect our law enforcement to go along w. the program and if they don't, then consequences, but i would expect a good many road bumps on that one

but in seven days i could certainly round up the troops, put all insurance execs in a jail or prison, and let the negotiating start from there

your other plans (other than ceasing embargo on cuba) could not be implemented in 7 days, anyone can say anything in 7 days, but as far as doing it, i only see universal insurance as being do-able in that span of time and believe you me, forever after, they'd be calling me a dictator, just as they call abe lincoln a dictator, you will pay a price to get things done

6. Give tax breaks and incentives to companies

that keep jobs right here in the USA, and penalize them heavily for outsourcing or moving offshore.
Reverse Bush's tax cuts for the top 1%.

Get rid of NAFTA.

Get rid of No Child Left Behind. Mandate that schools make critical thinking a priority. Make discussion of "current events" mandatory in schools. (My kid's in 9th grade and she has never in any class in any grade discussed anything going on in the world. Schools claim "No time" because they are too busy "teaching the test.")

Restore the fairness doctrine.

I like yours, too. Getting the hell out of Iraq = #1

7. The first thing I would do...
Easy enough...

1. Get Iran and Syria and other countries around Iraq to come to an agreement..so we could withdraw ALL US troops.

2. I would look at every US Government Organization starting 6 years ago and go through all Employees...if they do not have the required Education or Experience....aka "Brownie" they would be gone. In order to run an efficient government professionals in their field must be placed in positions where they can effect change.

3. I would NOT let the * Administration think they were free from Criminal Charges....I would open a Full Blown Investigation into ALL of their supposed Secrets and would prosecute for Treason if it's applicable.

4. Did you know the US Homeland Security is not working with Interpol? That's right...one of the most formidable international crime fighting organizations who has the capacity to feed information about Terrorists to the US....yep Skeletor will not work with Them....
So I would engage Interpol and other Organizations to fight criminals who are now pegged as Terrorist...I would go after them as a crime fighting organization would...

There is so much more...it would take all night..

10. End the wars, reinstate all pre-Bush taxes on the wealthy and corporations, verifiable voting...
...re-regulate the media (forcing Murdoch to divest), universal health care, heavily tax outsourcing, enforce separation of church and state, legalize same-sex marriage, enforce women's sovereignty over their reproductive choices. For starters, anyway.

Foreign policy: End the US violence in Iraq.

Domestic agenda: Recognize the truth in Gandhi's saying that poverty is the worst form of violence.

12. Sign into law a modern-day WPA
for rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. This program would last long enough that a young person could spend their entire working career within it, free from the fear of downsizing. It would be paid for with revenues from a freshly-revised, truly progressive tax code. I'm feeling magnanamous tonight, so I'd even give the plutocrats a tax break if they contribute to this program in some material way.

13. Day 1: First, I'd dock Bushco at the Hague.
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 08:47 PM by liberalmuse
While they're all being tried and executed for their crimes, I'd pull all of our troops out of Iraq and disband Blackwater. No mercenary who has committed a crime would be allowed re-entry into the U.S. I'd make sure that all allegations of misconduct by Blackwater and any companies engaging in war-profiteering and war crimes were investigated and severaly punished. Reparations would be paid to every Iraqi citizen by corporations who personally profited via the no bid contract, like KBR and Halliburton.
Priorites:
1. A signing statement that would undo all of Bush's signing statements, which would include obliterating the Patriot Act and reinstating The Constitution as the law of the land.
2. Implement universal "socialist" healthcare and increase veterans benefits.
3. Revamp the entire education system so Americans are never so dumb as to allow someone like Bush to steal office without taking to the streets en masse again.
4. Build the most innovative high speed transit system in the world using alternative energy/low environmental impact linking all of the U.S. major cities.
5. More funds for science, less for religions. Any religious organization that takes a political stand would be required to pay taxes.
Day 2:
6. I'd be assasinated by some fundie wingnut.
