Fox Noise Channel's "Daily Show" Ripoff Airs Two Test Episodes —
be sure to miss them!

Excerpt:

FNC is testing the concept on Sunday nights. The first episode will air at 10 p.m. Sunday and repeat the following Sunday. The second episode will air at the same time March 4.

The show, which stars comedians Kurt Long and Jenn Robertson, owes quite a bit to "Saturday Night Live" segment "Weekend Update" in both format and spirit. The "newscasters" will take a story of the day and then spin it to a comedic extreme.

"We're calling it news with a sense of humor," said Surnow, producer of Fox's "24." "It's a show that satirizes the targets that have been missed by the mainstream satirists on TV."

One seg discusses the timeless popularity on campus of T-shirts bearing the iconic image of Che Guevara. "We spin it into a campus T-shirt salesman who also sells T-shirts of Mao and Hitler," said co-producer Manny Coto.

1. Breathtakingly original
wow, a comic take on the news, who would have ever thought of that?

12. GOPigs don't understand satire. What they think is satire winds up to be

laughing at other people's misfortune.

So what else are they going to do besides comparing Che' to Hitler?

Maybe they will compare the Democrats to terrorists! That's always good for a laugh in the nitwit circles.

I think I am too, because that's exactly what I think will happen. Everything will turn into ridicule of democrats, poor people, and minorities of all kinds.

Perfect.

Fox News once throws more bones their favorite demographic -- the 65-and-over set. 10 pm might be a little late in the evening for them...

8. Main reason this won't work ...
While the Daily Show does occasionally pick on specific people, I've never felt that it was particularly cruel. They tell some jokes and move on to the next subject.

I can only imagine a lot of mean-spirited snipes with the Faux News version.

11. you mean humorlesss assholes reading unfunny script poorly?
What was that movie, Ishtar, that was so bad that you had to watch, mainly out of horror and disbelief?

There was one worse movie, called, What ever Happened to Jack and Jill. Never before has an entire theater stayed to the bitter end in the faint hope of seeing every actor and actress, along with the director, producer and screenwriter die in the end.

10. it's a bad idea because it's reactionary and ideological
they base it on the premise that "The Daily Show" is obscenely Liberal so that they need a funny Conservative view out there. Except Conservatives aren't funny, except when they are trying to be serious, like O'Reilly, who is such a jackass you have to laugh at him. Nothing that is such a blatant ideological reaction works. Like take Colbert, he isn't a reactionary, he's a parody. These guys freaked out over Jon Stewart hitting the big time, so they created their own GOP style show in a similar mold. They just think Stewart attacks the GOP and makes them look silly, well, in truth that is all they see, because as a true comedian, he goes after everybody. Sure, he is pretty Liberal, and he hits his GOP guests hard in interviews, but his show is based on pure comedy not ideology. That's why it works. Guys like Stewart and Colbert make everybody look stupid, and that is what is so brilliant about them. Fox just wants to rip on Dems, so it will do pretty well with the knuckle-dragging base, but those people are humorless and would rather watch O'Reilly and Hannity anyway.

It just won't be that funny, and will get universally panned, without a doubt.

they would have spun it into a segment where they sell Guns by Ghandi and Pope John Paul II Condoms.

Because crassly commercializing a communist's image for profit is ironic.

And we all know how successful he was. What is he doing now? Car wash openings?

I predict this latest propaganda outlet show will fall flat on its face right away.

Faux will continue to fund it and air it long after it has tanked simply because they can't come up with anyting else that is any better.

Ed to add: Thanks to whoever gave me the Valentine!! :hi:

Right wing comedy? Can anyone name a single right winger who's funny?

I can't wait until Stewart and Colbert rip apart this new show.

Unfortunately, right wingers will never admit that both TDS and CR rip into democrats as well as republicans.

21. See this is what's weird about the right wing mentality.
Fox news is no. 1 in cable news. Yet still label themselves as "underdogs". How big must your audience be before you're mainstream? Doesn't O'Reilly get bigger numbers than Colbert? Wouldn't that make Billy mainstream.

Trying to figure out these loons can hurt the noggin!

and not too many fundies or freepers (the target audience) have that. Probably that Steve Douchebag guy will be on there. He seems to think hes really funny (the best part is to watch him horrify even the other faux lapdogs on his show as his idiotic comments fall flat..) Maybe this will fall into the category of so bad and pathetic its funny (Rocky Horrorshow like)

Hey, if they want to be funny, why not just report the TRUTH for a change? Their viewers would think that was comedy, because it's so far removed from what they've been told on the Faux "real" News.

28. Wow that last line about the Che Guevara T-shirts
Now that looks like some knee slapping humor! As creative as the day is long.
Maybe they'll have some water-boarding near drownings too. Those are a hoot. Maybe in the nostalgia section they could do a buddhist monk self immolation from the good old days Vietnam.
Maybe they can have a weekly segment on those rambunctious Bush and Cheney girls ("little Mary Cheney is having a virgin birth."). Those kids are such a chuckle.
They should have a solid audience of Bush bots who know great humor when they see it.

They've already got:

Hannity and Colmes
The O'Reily Factor
Your World with Neal Cavuto
Fox and Friends
Special Report with Brit Hume
Hannity's America
On the Record with Greta Van Sustern

You'd think they'd have this comedy thing down by now.
