Who is paying attention to DU - other than DUers?
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 03:05 PM by RiverStone
Like the proverbial tree that falls that no one hears, I wonder who out there listens to what we have to say on DU --- other than us?

I find some solace as I ponder my deep disappointment with Dem leadership, that I'm in like-minded company in this little corner of the universe called DU.

We rage against the DEM machine, the party elite, the folks that checked their gut at the door after assuming power on The Hill. Too many let downs to reiterate, but Kyle-Lieberman and the MoveOn censure votes are the most recent.

DU seems to maintain a steady pace; we are consistently to the left of center - but pragmatic and realistic as well. Most here are passionate about the issues and if not still dedicated to the party - were at one time. I know where I stand - I know where lots of you stand - I just don't know where the center of my party stands? Everytime I look, it moves farther to the right.

Y'all make so much damn sense! I'd be grateful if someone --- any DUer out there can show me evidence that someone in power within the Dem establishment gives a fuck what we are saying.

Inexplicably, the Kucinich's and Feingold's of the party seem to be pushed more and more to the fringe. And if that keeps happening fine DUers, where does that leave us?

On EDIT: Changed OP title to better reflect what the heck I'm trying to say :)

peace~

it kind of depends on if it really interests the reader.

3. I think that's why we are under ground. We are the one's
who will always fight and strive for integrity in government and in society.

We may not be loudly heard or heard at all, but our presence is felt. Our intent is transfered to the world through our deeds in our lives. We live as we speak here. We are kind and generous people who believe in a fairness driven constitutional democracy.

Community is our strength and calm.

DU is where we are forced to find each other when our neighbors, friends, and families succumb to the sweet sounds of corporate propaganda.

14. We are here to support each other
or to flame people to hell, depending on agenda. As for news getting out of DU to the "real world", we have a libertarian in our office that is a complete @**, but even he thinks the moveon censure was a total waste of congress' time. He passes john stewart clips around though, and he allows me to look innocuous

15. After spending countless hours here

I'd say DU is 2 to 3 years ahead of the rest of the population on

most issues, there a many insightful posters here and much to learn.

I pass along most of what I learn here to friends relatives and co-workers

in turn they pass the info on to others.

WE ARE THE MEDIA.....

19. I 'M A DU FANATIC!!!

Yes, I have a low post count. But I have been lurking here since 2002. I don't post much because I am embarrassed of my grammar. I had a stroke in 2001 and am paralyzed on one side of my body. But if it wasn't for du I would go crazy. I don't sleep very good, so am up at 2:30am. First thing I do is get my coffee and crank on Du. And I get all my information here and email to my other democratic friends.I spend a total of 8 hrs. off and on.One time our internet went down for a week, I went thru withdrawals.

I just want to say thanks to all here on DU. If it weren't for you guys and ladies, I would be in the dark about things. Very intelligent people here at DU.

Thanks to all.

John

I'm glad we keep you entertained and informed. :) I hope you post more - you shouldn't worry so much about your grammar. You're obviously an intelligent, caring, and genuine person and that outshines any mistakes.

I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs. :)

22. NOONE, except a few researchers will turn up DU threads in their keyword searching.
There is a lot of ranting going on that noone even reads here on DU.
For each ten posts made, about one gets read, on many fora.

23. DU is an excellent source of links to useful information and opinions on a wide range of subjects.
With its large number of forums, DU is unique on the web for being a conduit and a filter for just about any subject imaginable. This makes it invaluable for one-stop shopping for people who have interests and expertise in so many different areas.

To be sure, some people who post here can be infuriating in their opinions, or way off in their factual statements. This has provided an incentive to jump in with my two cents. I have occasionally received some admonitions about the facts I have presented. Being on the internet, I have been able to Google the subject and correct my post in those few occasions when memory did not serve correctly. Being able to correct my posts so quickly and easily is very satisfying. Posting on DU is almost conversational, but with editing capabilities, allows you to be more accurate and thoughtful in your posts (for those of us who care about such things).

DU also serves as a haven for "progressives" to hang out and realize that we are not totally alone in a society that is largely close-minded about many issues and treats people who have opinions outside of the "mainstream" as outcasts. We have even seen conservatives who are not part of the right-wing lunatic fringe post here, since they have no where else to express their opinions in safety.

I feel that, even if we don't get recognition in the outside world, DU serves a very useful purpose on the Internet.

28. Come on, can't you tell?
Stewart, Colbert (or at least some of their writers), Olbermann, etc. etc.

If something stirs the collective ire of DU on any given day, you can bet there will be a segment on it on one of those Big Three shows. I can think of 10 New York Times bestsellers in the past couple of years that could have been researched almost entirely here at DU.

We're happening, baby. Just don't tell anyone, because we're underground.
