8. Making point that you CAN debate the war policy and...
still support troops. Hutchinson did against Clinton (example). Also McCain critized actions in Somalia. These Senators still supported the troops!!

9. So, Hagel's spanking the repubs for supporting a non-binding
resolution against Clinton's activities while talking trash about a non-binding resolution against bush's activities.

Did I get the gist of it? He's calling them on their hypocrisy? LOL

He is up for re-election, so it would be in his best interest to try to stop this war. I know the Republic leadership is putting a lot of pressure on him.

40. Snowe is really making a lot of sense. Very impassioned.
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 04:46 PM by Tatiana
"We should be embracing this moment. We are the voice of the American people... I don't see any ongoing negotiations and discussions. Historically, we took the position that you missed your chance with a vote two weeks ago. You mean that's it? How do we pass major pieces of legislation by saying 'that's it'? It's unimaginable that we cannot develop a strategy for deliberating on this constitutional issue.

Why? So we'll get back to Iraq... that's what we've heard. The Iraq war doesn't take a recess. Are we saying that we are simply not capable of talking? That's what the U.S. Senate is about. It's based on the idea that you have to develop cooperation in order to get things done.

We missed our chance? Are we talking about scoring political points? Or are we talking about discussing what is the best policy for our troops in Iraq?"

WOW! Just... wow! Snowe even admits the heat she's taken in the past for working across the aisle with Democrats in the past. No glances at notes or anything. She's speaking from the heart.
