Bush Bombs at the United Nations-No One Clapped-Not Even Our Allies (Larry Johnson)
Bush Bombs at the United Nations
By Larry Johnson on Sep 25, 2007 in Current Affairs

.......... today’s performance in New York set a new low even for the Bush Administration. Except for tepid applause when Bush was introduced and when he left the podium, no one clapped. Not even our allies. The world has caught on to the George Bush propaganda game and declines to show him a modicum of respect.

................

America’s moral authority is gone. Our credibility in talking about foreign threats and the need to respect human rights is zippo. What is truly appalling about this development is that we have aligned ourselves in practice with those very regimes we so vigorously condemn. In the past, authoritarian regimes like the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba, would justify their right to detain people without worrying about due process because they defined those individuals as terrorists who threatened the state and the security of their people. From their standpoint, all was fair when it came to protecting the nation. Security of the people was paramount, and human rights and civil liberties be damned in the face of perceived threats.

...........................

So the world sat largely silently listening to a crazed little man rant about the abuses in the rest of the world. But his condemnation of the war in Sudan and the creation of refugees in Darfur could not blot out the reality of his war in Iraq and the millions who have fled that hell hole.

...................

The rest of the world sees and understands our hypocrisy. Unfortunately, many Americans share the ignorance and vacuity of George Bush and do not realize how foolish and stupid we look on the world stage. Today’s performance by George Bush does nothing to win friends or influence enemies. It simply reinforces the notion that the United States is in the grips of a President who has fulfilled the prophecy of H.L. Mencken:

38. Not to worry ...
bush doesn't care he bombed at the UN.

The only bomb(s) that matter now are the ones he and cheney are getting ready to drop on Iran.

You keep forgetting these madmen aren't done yet. Everything they do is legal and sanctioned by divine right. Nothing else matters, not history, reality nor sanity. Just whatever is floating around in bush and cheney's demented minds. The entire species of mankind's continued brief existence on this planet is in the hands of madmen.

Have a nice day.

73. With the Iran threat looming, this behavior is something we need more of.
It IS good to finally see that others hate him as much as we do. I always feel like I'm living on another planet when I see people cheer for him. Sept. 29th is another DC march. At this point, it looks like the rest of the world wont blame our outrage. This gives me renewed strength.

By the way, welcome to DU Gonnuts!!!

16. The Mencken quote

” . . . all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily (and) adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

So Perfect.

97. i don't think they do...
i think they are afraid of 'truth' getting out, and the media dwelling on it. Basically, we're broke, our political system no long pays att'n to the majority- the fixers have so jammed up the works that its frozen....the dems are going along with the busheviks not because they think the busheviks have the wherewithal to nazify the country (if the dems thought that, they impeach bush tomorrow) but because the busheviks can reveal enough 'truth' to trigger something akin to overwhelming rage among the population, and chaos will result. In 6 months, literally, people could be dying by the tens of thousands here in north america- the dems are terrified of chaos, and maintaining order is their only sacred issue. If removing bush could be done w/out chancing the escape of 'truth' into public domain, even the repukes would go along, but...them murdering bush regime criminals are scared, and trapped like rats in a corner, so the democrats are telling them 'cool it, no one ever gonna try to punish you guys-guaranteed!'
Something like that anyway.
I think that 911 was so in-your-face staged by the rogue MIC/gopigs that they burned the bridges for entire country, and the dems are (they think in the public interest) saying 'it all forgotten' which explains why the democrats are condemning the moveon.org betrayus ad etc. They're proving to the gopig heavies that the gopigs can relax, though most democratic party supporters find that too hard a pill to swallow. The 'attack' on iran is a desperate trick the busheviks could actually try, martial law and all the rest. BUT the country probably would not stand for it...It'll be interesting to see what happens. Personally, i think we should hang 1/2 million gopigs/mediawhores within the next 6 months/year, but hey, i'm just a level three :)

Has anyone seen Bill Clinton (or any other real statesman) speak? They don't need no stinkin' notebooks with 8 lines of 50 point phonetically spelled out text! He's an embarrassment to the once proud United States.

Many thanks to Stephanie for the pictures in this thread

35. What happens when a delusional paranoid psychotic sociopath gets ignored
...by the world, when that sick shrub has the nuclear button at his disposal? :hide: :yoiks:

Answer:
"Psychosis" is a very serious condition. This term covers a group of illnesses which affect the brain so severely that the person is no longer able to tell what is real or not. Having a "delusional psychosis" means that a person develops very strange, irrational beliefs — at odds with reality and which that person can't accept any arguments against.

Another example of a psychotic illness is schizophrenia, in which the person not only has delusions but may also hallucinate and experience extreme difficulty in organizing their thoughts. Thankfully it is treatable, but the longer someone goes without treatment, the worse the outcome is likely to be.

While successful treatment includes psychological and community support, anti-psychotic medication really is essential to reduce symptoms and the likelihood of further episodes recurring. Unfortunately, being medicated to the degree that one feels like a "zombie" is not pleasant, but may be necessary to control that person's unpredictable and possibly dangerous behavior.

I saw a disgustingly hypocritical, condescending, and at times, sarcastic speech but there was tepid and polite applause afterwards.

vaudeville hook to yank all of them off the world stage, a clean sweep by the rest of the world as we no longer have free and fair elections to remove unwanted tyrants.

76. But was there applause ....
interspersed during his speech or was it just the bit at the end? I believe the OP states that there was some tepid applause at the beginning and end, but none during the speech which was what made it unusual.

I haven't watched it (watching him is like nails on a chalkboard for me) - so I'm really just asking.

74. world has caught on to the George Bush propaganda

.......... today’s performance in New York set a new low even for the Bush Administration. Except for tepid applause when Bush was introduced and when he left the podium, no one clapped. Not even our allies. The game and declines to show him a modicum of respect.

The U.N. members attending his speeches must be used to gagging by now with both hands to their throats. Pretty hard to clap hands when you're stuck in that position.

93. We have had this policy in our home for several years...
In our home we reached a Bush saturation point sometime after we realized the "official" 9/11 story was a hoax and we invaded Iraq.

We now have a very strictly adhered to policy: Bush is not to be seen or heard in our home...EVER. If his likeness is on the front of the newspaper, it is removed and discarded in the outdoor trash bin. If he is making a lie, er, speech on television, it is turned off. If he comes on the radio, it is turned off. If he merely pops up on a program not specifically about him, such as one story in the newscast, we will literally look the other way until he is finished.

This is done as a deliberate show of abject disrespect, but of course cannot even begin to atone for the abject disrespect he has shown and caused to be shown to our nation.
