Since actress Sally Field won an Emmy and spoke out against the Iraq war in her acceptance speech, the right wing has been on the attack. In addition to Fox censoring her speech, conservatives continue to criticize Field for speaking out.

Taking the slander to a very personal level, right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin attacked Field's parenting skills with a column in the National Review entitled "Sally Field Does Not Speak For Me." In it, she writes:


Sally Field is the mom who looks the other way when the brat on the elementary-school slide pushes your son to the ground or throws dirt in your daughter's face.

She's the mom who holds her tongue at the mall when thugs spew profanities and make crude gestures in front of her brood.

She's the mom who tells her child never to point out when a teacher gets her facts wrong.

She's the mom who buys her teenager beer, condoms, and a hotel room on prom night, because she'd rather give in than assert her parental authority and do battle.

7. Bizarre leaps of "logic"

I'm anti-war but by what giant leap of crazyville logic would that mean I would look the other way when a schoolyard bully beats up on my child. Bush is the ultimate schoolyard bully which why I am against his global bullying.

As far as buying my teenager beer, NO. Paying for a hotel room for my teenager, NO. Buying him condoms, YES! It's better to be realistic about teenage sexuality than to stick your head in a hole and pretend that YOUR child would NEVER have premarital sex.

Hold my tongue at a mall, I rarely go to the mall. This whole point seems silly and contrived. Pointing out to a teacher when they get their facts wrong, what kind of "facts"? The right wing "facts" about global warming or evolution? My kid has stood up to the right wing little bushbots who are the majority at his school and given reasoned well-informed arguments against the Iraq mess. I'm proud of him. He's also smart enough to know to pick and choose your battles.

17. AFN (Armed Forces Network) is showing a clip of Sally Field

from the Emmy's saying how much she "loves" the troops and that they are "in her heart" and how she wants them "all to come home safe". The clip is real and happened at the end of the show.


So that means, far and wide, across the globe, troops with access to AFN (and that's in the tens of thousands) are hearing and seeing Sally Field speak of her love and concern for the well being and safety of the troops.

I saw the clip this morning for the first time. It shows several celebrities from the Emmy's sending messages...Sally Field being just one of them.
