Protests and Politics.

King George granted his subjects a rare press conference today, ostensibly to chastise Democrats who want to increase funding for the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which is set to expire Sept. 30. Democrats want to double the funding of this program that provides health insurance to low- and middle-income - income families. Bush has vowed to veto any spending increases. Today he accused Democrats of putting health care coverage for poor children at risk so they could score political points, adding that, "health coverage for these children should not be held hostage while political ads are being made and new polls are being taken."

So, lemme get this straight: If the Democrats want to increase the funding of this program so that more children can get reduced-cost health care, that's putting their health at risk? Only in newspeak, bizarro, Bushworld.

Man-or-Monkey was peppered by the press with the usual questions and provided the usual answers: Iraqi progress? Give it more time. Move On ad? Disgusting. Recession? Our economy is strong. Blah blah blah. The one notable moment occurred when he repeatedly refused to comment on reports that Israeli planes guided by ground forces attacked an installation—believed to be the beginnings of a nuclear project—in northern Syria on Sept. 6. Uh-huh.

He finally did mention the situation in Jena, La., but wouldn't comment on legal specifics, saying that "the events in Louisiana have saddened me, I understand the emotions." He said the FBI is monitoring the situation. I wonder if they're "monitoring it" in the same fashion as they did MLK and Malcom X and scores of other civil rights leaders and protestors in the 60's.


We'll deconstruct the moron sounds and will discuss the Jena protests on the program tonight.
