Do you remember what 70 brave and DEMOCRATIC members of Congress did last July? See here how it could finally force a change in Shrub's reckless war machine in September!

From Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey
July 17, 2007Washington, DC - As public frustration with President Bush’s failed Iraq policy continues to mount, a bi-partisan group of 70 members of Congress asserted their power to use the appropriations process to change the policy in Iraq, directly challenging the President’s claim that Congress’ only power with regard to the conflict is to fund the policy he has set.
Led by Progressive, and Out of Iraq Caucus Chairs Reps. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Maxine Waters (D-CA), 70 House Members today delivered a letter to President Bush putting him on notice that when the Congress takes up the FY ’08 funding for military operations in Iraq in September they will only support appropriating funding for military operations in Iraq that are used to fully fund the safe and orderly redeployment of US troops from Iraq. In their letter, the broad collection of members cited the skyrocketing human and financial costs of the President’s failed Iraq policy and warned that the occupation’s costs will be felt for generations to come.

Can there be any question that there's but just one chance to end this thing? No more funding without binding timelines. The focus is soon going to shift to the House, where we have a core group of 70 members who have stated their intentions in a letter to the president: (letter linked above)
<snip>
Those 70 members, and any that they can convince to join them, have to hang tough. They are a large enough voting bloc, a quarter of the majority party, to block any effort to pass another war-spending bill this fall that represents anything short of a quick exit from Iraq.
Let's add to their number. Make them hear you. Call, fax, and e-mail your representative in Congress. If they are one of the 70 who signed on to that letter, tell them to hold strong and keep their promise. If their name is not on that letter, ask them to join with those 70 representatives and stop funding.
