Wednesday TOONS : The Taser (you know the one)

(Note: One can disagree with the actions of a particular person AND still disagree with the actions taken by the police. One does not negate the other. Non-dangerous bad behavior does not constitute a license to do whatever one wants to stop said behavior. In the spirit of free speech I offer the following toon collection….)

Greenie

Bushco

Health care

08

What’s really goin’ on….

OJ

Voting Machines

Finally

13. Explaining the tombstone
The New York Times website has a two-tier system. Merely by registering (it's free), you get access to the past week's news articles, plus some from the archive. If you pay $50/year for Times Select, you can download up to 100 older articles per month.

Until this week, Times opinion columnists were part of Times Select. You couldn't get any of Krugman's columns online, even the recent ones, unless you subscribed to Times Select (or unless you followed a link from a DU post to a site that was reposting Krugman's column in probable violation of copyright law).

The Times has now announced that all the columnists will be available for free, i.e., even if you don't fork over the money for Times Select.

I don't think it's accurate to imply that Times Select is dead. I think they're still charging for access to the archives -- Times Select for pretty broad access, or pay for each article you want to read. But, I'll grant the cartoonist the artistic license!

4. Respectfully....
"Non-dangerous bad behavior does not constitute a license to do whatever one wants to stop said behavior."

If that in spirit were true, we'd be led by nothing but loud boisterous bully thugs like that guy, since they would tell anyone trying to curtail their behavior to "Shut up" and as long as they were bigger and stronger (like this guy) peace officers would have no choice to back away and let them take over the show.

6. That is a straw man and you know it

The police have training in techniques to subdue a person without using a Taser. The Taser was designed to subdue someone with a weapon without having to resort to using a lethal weapon like a gun on them. We now have this weapon being used on unarmed civilians.

Any group of police worth their salt could take this guy out, unharmed, in a few minutes. Without a Taser.

7. That's still up for debate
They had the option of physical force or a taser. Given the fact that this guy was big, young, and healthy, I know this isn't true 100% of the time, but the taser had almost no chance of being lethal as long as it wasn't being applied to the heart. On the other hand constant physical fighting with the man could have resulted in harm to him or one of the officers as well.

9. When I am arrested, sir, I will take a bruise over *whatever* chance a taser may have in killing me.

Every time, thanks.

14. Seconded.
It's so sad when people on the "left" insist on doing the neo-cons' work for them.
