1. The local TV news in Columbus is always running stories like that.
You know, brush your teeth, wear your coat when it's cold out - all the stuff you tell your second-grader.

2. Next up.. The importance of not just turning your underwear inside out..
It's better to wash them and only wear them once :)

9. I knew a girl in college who was so germ-phobic
that she literally wore a new pair every day and threw them away after one wearing..

She also refused to sit next to anyone at mealtime.. She had to have an empty chair on both sides of her:)

and she put saran wrap over her typewriter keys

11. Actually washing hands or using a sanitizer when using heavily used keyboards isn't a bad idea...
But saran wrap does sound a tad extreme.

About the disposable panties, did she realize she can sell them on Craigslist? She might even turn a profit!

Did you hear about the Elbonian who got his first pack of pampers for his baby?
Someone came to visit and the kid had one on, dragging the ground because it was overflowing. They asked about it, and he replied "The package says 15-25 pounds and there ain't but 2 or 3 in there."

14. In 1968, no one knew about that, but you're right
she probably did have it.:( She was actually quite funny at times, and as long as she could sit at the end of the table, she enjoyed goin barhopping with us..

3. There is a soap Industry group pushing a new white paper on this
including a poll on how men are washing their hands less.

I believe in the importance of handwashing, but like much of the "news," this current round of interest is based on a canned story from a source with an agenda.

I'm tired of it. The "special guests" even on left leaning comedy and punditry shows seem always to have a new book that was or is about to be released. Taint is the contemporary color choice of media producers.

12. Actually, it is important
A major medical university in Budapest is named after the man who introduced handwashing in health care settings, Ignaz Semmelweis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignaz_Semmelweis. Infections remain a major problem in hospitals today; even now, overhauling the handwashing protocol slashes the rate of infection.

We all know about healthy eating and exercise, but don't we all need a little reminding of their importance from time to time, too?

18. I wish I could rec individual posts
Thanks for pointing that out. It's just as important to regularly wash your hands at home, too, and at work- especially if you work in an environment (as I do) where lots and lots of materials are being handled by many people, or are coming from the public into your facility. I happen to be a postal worker in a distribution plant, and the rate of "casual" illness seems to be quite high. I'm thinking people could cut that by, as you said, washing their hands.

17. I was in Iowa this weekend...
...for the Harkin Steak-Fry. Rather that the traditional "Employees must wash hands" sign in the restaurant bathroom, there was a legal size poster with 15 detailed instructions...

19. While waiting in the restroom at a local Casino, I watched 7 women
exit the stalls and walk out the door. Didn't bother to stop at the sink to wash their hands. From there they touch the machines, the drink stations, the dining rooms.
These are grown women who probably instruct their kids, grandkids, students, patients, etc. to Wash Your Hands.
Kind of icky to think of where you put your hands in a place like this. Did they wipe and run?
yuk.
