What do you think of the recruiting of Democratic candidates who have served in Iraq?
It seems like Markos over at DailyKos likes to recruit candidates who have served in the military in Iraq.

Am I the only one who is immune to the charms of a military candidate? I don't consider it a bad thing; I just don't think of this as a characteristic which would make me more or less likely to vote for someone.

If a kid asked me whether he should enlist, I would advise him against it.

Does the strategy of recruiting candidates who have served in the military in Iraq work? Are you all impressed by this credential?

I don't want to question the value of the service, but I'm unconvinced that this is a good preparation for politics. What do you guys think?

1. I think anti-war candidates who have been in Iraq do work; they have
experience to know why we shouldn't be in Iraq, and that is the big issue of the day, as it should be.

6. I could see that, but what about Iraq vets who are middle-of-the-road on getting out of Iraq?
I could see how strong anti-war vets have credibility on that issue, but some of these vets aren't especially anti-war.

2. Where will future John Kerry's come from?
How can you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?

3. It's not a magic bullet, but I don't think it hurts.
Personally, it has no impact. I'm more interested in ideas, but I'm not the only voter, so I don't mind it.

4. I assume that it goes without saying that it doesn't hurt. I just question whether military service
is a qualification which forms the basis for many people preferring one candidate over another.

5. It worked well in Va. Even better when going up against a chickenhawk.
