PREPARE FOR WAR WITH IRAN, SAYS FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER
The world should "prepare for war" with Iran, the French foreign minister has said, significantly escalating tensions over the country's nuclear programme.

Bernard Kouchner said that while "we must negotiate right to the end" with Iran, if Teheran possessed an atomic weapon it would represent "a real danger for the whole world".

The world should "prepare for the worst... which is war", he said.

1. Yes, just saw it on the BBC...
...and friends here on DU told me Sarko was not to fear, Kouchner was a good Minister, the French President could even be considered a moderate Dem in the US. "Let's wait and see what he does".

Well that's it.
That is what they were talking about, Mr. Bush Senior, Mr. Bush Junior, Mr. Sarko in the US last summer.

Sarko a "moderate US Dem"? Then I lose all my hope...

6. On many issues the comparison would be correct.
Sadly, not on this issue it would seem.

4. A French War with Iran would have a more disastrous ending
than the one they had with North Vietnam.

3. Interesting, isn't it, that Sarkozy's power base were the elderly and the wealthy ...
... i.e. the ones who'll be staying at home if war comes.

5. A conservative barely in office and threatening war.
Nothing surprising in that.

9. This was today's #2 top story on Democracy Now; on DU it falls like a rock
Nobody here cares about warnings like this? I think our liberal leadership and opinion-makers need to "come to Jesus" and wake up out of their denial, and realize that once you've got a foreign minister talking like this, the war's almost certainly going to happen.

And Iran has Chinese and Russian consultants working on their energy plants. What's going to happen if we harm them?
