I have a question that's been bugging me for days.
Where is the money coming from to build that palace we are calling the Iraq Embassy? That thing must be costing billions and if Congress approved this spending, then I am really pissed. Anybody know?

2. Wow, that's a head-scratcher...
Maybe it's the same place that the shrink-wrapped bundles of freshly printed hundred dollar bills (stacked up on freight pallets, and flown in by Air Force cargo planes) came from?

Or the same place that authorized colonial satrap, Paul Bremer, to impose such strict accounting controls on "aid money", when we first went into Iraq?

I haven't read it, yet -- just saw it on the news stand -- but I've read things before, by the same author:

3. Approved by the Repuke Congress
Funds appropriated in '04 I think.

What do you expect? Sooner or later the Great Empire just had to build its "Castle in Mesopotamia."

7. My gut is telling me you're right. But even still wouldn't Congress
have had to have a hand in approving taking away money from the VA programs and then spending it on the Embassy? I just get the sinking feeling that EVERYONE is Wash DC is up to their collective eyeballs in sending this country down the river in a chickenwire canoe.

10. VA wouldn't need as much funding in their next budget ...

(as per BushCo instructions)

and what they wouldn't use could be channeled where BushCo needed it with the complicity of their stooges in Congress.

8. According to the Congressional Research Service
http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RS21867.pdf

"A previous emergency supplemental appropriation (H.R. 1268/P.L. 109-13), signed
into law on May 11, 2005, included $592 million for embassy construction — all that
is needed for construction of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, according to the Department
of State."

11. So that answers the question that everybody in Wash DC is
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 01:16 PM by spenbax
obviously corrupt, and rather than send our troops over there with the safest gear we can give them, Wash chose to spend more on a damn embassy. Our government is indeed broken and probably not fixable in my lifetime.
