When will Republicans begin to distance themselves from the war
If they want to win they are going to have to do it sooner or later. They will have to start talking about getting us out or they are toast. So will this happen as soon as the Republican gets nominated or will he wait a few months then say he has had a change of heart?

1. When a Democrat is in charge.
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 01:07 PM by Marr
They'll do a 180 and proudly do all the things they now condemn war critics for doing. They'll say the war cannot be won, they'll say it's mismanaged, they'll even point out civilian casualties or crimes committed by US forces and say it's all ultimately the president's fault.

You just watch.

These Democrats who think allowing the Iraq occupation to continue will benefit them politically are in for a big surprise. It may gain them a few bloody points in the polls today (when they don't even need it), but it'll cost them everything after the next elections.

2. I don't think they see it that way.
With "betrayus" giving his talking points. I'd argue that they're digging their boots in even more.

3. Norm Coleman sez one thing and does another, as does John Warner
Collins, maybe? I think Smith and Hagal are solid. I don't think John E. Sununu will switch .. But even if all these repukes switch will we have enough votes?

6. I too, had thought they would have to end the war in order
for GOP on the Hill to have the opportunity at all.

However, it has occurred to me they do not plan to end the war,
in fact they plan to "change the focus" to the Greater War on
terror. It appears using a similar strategy to 2004, cannot
change horses mid stream, fear, fear, and "manly-tough looking"
candidates, they just may win.

Bush has gained eitht points bringing him to 33%. GOP believe
if he can keep 1/3 of country with him this keeps the Republicans
from peeling off.

If you notice, THOMPSON and GUILLIANI, are going ful throttle
on Terror Terror Terror. It has surprised me that these two
continue to lead the polls especially espousing war and proclaiming
we will be in this fight for generations.

Did you see an earlier post today, regarding the Christian Coalition??
They have taken an official position--Guns, God, Gays and Abortion
will be subordimated to the Fighting Greater War on Terrorsism.
This gives their voters the opportunity to choose "Leaders" who
are strongests on Terrorism and not be concerned with trying
to find a purist on Cultural Issues. ie, Guilliani, McCain,
Thompson(does not do church)

This coming week Newt Gingrich will deliver an important speech
at AEI (Bastion of Neocon Thought). Gingrich engineered the
Republican Takeover in 94. He is not about to let GOP lose
without a fight and I do mean fight. I will be willing to
bet he reframes the War on Terror . GinGrich is smart.

There are other things, I monitor TV and I see a pattern
The GOP are going about their business setting up War as
their winning issue.

I do not know--am still thinking on this, can the Dems wait
until 08 to show some spine. We may be in for a surprise.
