106. I know what you mean
I have family members who claim that Saddam HAD WMD's but that he hid them. These people claim to be "Moderates" and are disgusted with *, whom they voted for twice anyway. These are otherwise intellegent, educated people who want so badly for government to be their daddy, who are so willing to give up all their rights to feel "safe". These are the willfully ignorant. Wouldn't surprise me if they fell for Betrayus' report at all.

Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 02:28 PM by PurpleChez
your Will Rogers quote is one of my favorites, and the picture of the (your?) dog that goes with it is too cute.

Even when I was a more conventionally religious person I didn't give a lot of thought to "heaven". My grandmother died when I was a month shy of 13, a very impressionable age, and even then I wasn't really caught up in thinking that someday we'd be reunited in heaven, and I particularly never fell victim to the idea that my deceased relatives were watching me. (Although this COULD be a comforting notion too often it's presented as surveilance...Stop touching yourself! Gramma might see!) But then...

Arloe died way too young. She had lymphoma. We were lucky enough to live near a college of veterinary medicine and enrolled her in a treatment program, but it progressed too quickly. She died about a month after she was formally diagnosed. And that messed me up far worse than any human death ever has...no offense meant to my grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., and I know that my mom or dad or (god forbid) my daughter would be another story. After Arloe died I developed very clear notions that heaven was a place where time stopped and where Arloe was. No one else. It was a sunny, afternoon meadow with Arloe waiting just at the edge of it. After over four years that has faded somewhat, but the remembrance of it still leaves me choked up. And I'm at work, so I better stop.

Sorry to digress! Dogs rule.

90. Thanks!
I'm reminded of six years ago today... I was working at an adult mental retardation facility. I was in an asinine, trivial meeting when everything started to go crazy. My supervisor insisted that we continue talking about car rides for an upcoming dance or something silly like that, while one person after another stuck their heads in to tell us that the Pentagon had exploded or whatever. We were all glued to TVs around the facility. We couldn't close until everyone's parents/caregivers were able to pick them up, but we were able to close a few hours early. After such an insane day it was a relief when my wife came to pick ME up, with Arloe and Prince in the back seat. (Prince died last year, almost 16 years old.) I was rarely so happy to see the three of them.

72. This changes everything
This graphic changes everything for me. Now I see the wisdom of spending $500 billion and nearly 4,000 American lives on the Iraq war. I was misled about WMDs and terrorists. Now I understand what it's all about: skateboard ramps and trash cans! Who wants to live in a world with skateboard ramps and trash cans? I sure don't. Thank you, George W Bush, for your courageous leadership!

This whole thing would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn't so sad. Two thirds of the American people realize what a mistake this war is, yet in Washington today our leaders sat through another dog and pony show that was just more of the same garbage that's been dumped on us for the past five years. When the garbage was fresh we tried to live with it. Now it stinks and everybody is sick and tired of living with the stink.

From Znet:

Two Articles by Robert Fisk
How fake guns and painting the roads fooled Nato

NATO officers began to realise the discrepancy between their own claims and reality within hours of the start of the Yugoslav military withdrawal. In just the first stage of the Serbian retreat, they logged 250 tanks moving out of Kosovo - all undamaged - and at least 40,000 men. This was supposed to be the troop strength of the entire Third Army; thousands more soldiers left in the next three days.

All of which casts serious doubt on Nato's wartime propaganda. On 17 April, for example, Nato spokesman Jamie Shea was boasting that the alliance was "knocking the stuffing out of Milosevic" while General Wesley Clark, the Nato commander, said on 27 May that after 27,000 Nato sorties, his pilots had conducted "the most accurate bombing campaign in history." Although Nato repeatedly struck power stations and radio-television repeater stations - and suggested that it had killed more than 500 Yugoslav soldiers in a B-52 raid on Kosovo in the last week of bombing - it seems to have caused little damage to Serbian military equipment.

-snip- "During the war, the army realised they could survive when Nato started bombing civilian targets," the Yugoslav source said. "We came to the conclusion that Nato knew it couldn't find our vehicles concealed in the hills and forests so it deliberately targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure. That's when we knew we could maintain our battle readiness."

Despite the bombing of dozens of civilian targets, Nato repeatedly stated that it never intended to cause civilian casualties.

102. Not that I think Wes Clark is a bad man
or even that he wouldn't be a great President. I think he has come a long way since his days pimping for NATO. He is one of the few folks on the national stage telling it like it is on Iran and many other issues. He is also very sincere, I think, about almost everything.

My only point in posting the criticism of him is to underline the fact that Generals lie. Especially in war time. It's part of their job. If they didn't do it they wouldn't get to keep being the Generals.

27. you forgot the "we're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency"
and all the months/years of all 'the progress in Iraq that is not being reported by the media', and etc, etc, etc. before FINALLY saying that 'well, things haven't' been going as well as we thought/hoped'. WHY WOULD ANYONE BELIEVE THEM NOW! They and their puppets have done nothing but lie since 9/11. They want to stay there forever and they will do/say anything that will achieve that end. jr himself said he is "playing" for more time to get things into a condition that the next president will have to agree to stay there. There own words betray they're real motives every time. This is all nothing more than a giant real time version of Risk, Stratego, and Chess for them to play with......with real live ammunition and bodies. They have lied, they will continue to lie and real people will continue to die until they are removed from power, and fundamentally, Congress seems perfectly happy to let it all continue.

What a disgrace.

53. WOULD P-TRAYUS B-TRAYUS...... IS DICK A DICK? IS COLIN A COLIN?
Of all of the disappointments in the bush administration, Colin Powell is the most memerable. We trusted him. His honesty. His history, his bravery, his service to his country.

AND THAT IS WHAT MAKES HIM THE BIGGEST DOG OF THEM ALL.

HE KNEW BETTER.

B-TRAYUS DOES TOO.... AND HIS NAME SHOULD GO DOWN IN HISTORY FOR EVERY LIFE LOST AFTER HIS REPORT IS FILED.

SEND A NOTE TO COLIN.... HOW MANY HAVE DIED SINCE YOU SHOWED YOUR YELLOW STREAK ? ? ?

He was so beloved, and we thought he was honest; UNTIL........he joined the Bushgang in lying about the
weapons of mass destruction; I remember that very well. It's unbelievable to think that a General would fall on the sword for someone as low-down as George W. Bush. :nopity: :spank: :spank: :spank:

58. buSHITS Can't tell the truth..
They wouldn't want our country to know right from their own lyin' lips what filthy, evil fascists they are. And, the corporatemediawhores aren't going to cop to it, either..so that leaves us to figure out that usually the opposite of what they "SAY" is the truth. When it's not the opposite then it's damn near it.

I conclude the "surge" is not working at all and we should get the Hell outta Iraq.. they don't want to leave all that oil unattended; that being the Reason they went in there in the first place.

60. And, don't forget this from DU yesterday on Petraeus...
13 May 2003
U.S. Troops Find Second Biological Weapons Trailer Near Mosul

(Defense Department Report) (520)
Washington -- Troops from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division - -
stationed in northern Iraq and headquartered in Mosul -- have found
what military authorities believe may be a second mobile biological
weapons laboratory, says the division commander.

"The suspected mobile biological agent production lab found on 9 May
in our area was found by one of our infantry units during operations
at the al-Kindi Rocket and Missile Research and Development Center,"
Major General David Petraeus said May 13 during a briefing from Mosul.
"Our own chemical section looked at the trailer and confirmed it as a
trailer that was very close to identical to the first trailer that was
found by Special Forces southeast of here last week."

Petraeus said he spoke with experts May 13, and they have a
"reasonable degree of certainty that this is in fact a mobile
biological agent production trailer."

77. Excellent example. Somewhere there is a drawing of a cave command center with multiple
levels that accompanied the mobile labs illustration. Anyone remember seeing it? It was really a stretch with all the computerized levels turning Al Qaeda into Dr. No from a James Bond movie. When I saw it I just lol at its absurdity.

Great post and a perfect example to illustrate the point...which is self-explanatory. Great idea...thanks for posting it.

I think Powell was holding up the Mayan's weapon of mass destruction. Either that or Powell asked Bush if he new the score and Bush thought he said "had to score" and bush said, " I got this rock" and Powell thought he said "I got this from Iraq" and when Bush handed Powell the vial he added, "It's killer I got it from my 'Doc' so if anybody asks just say it's from W's MD and just a tiny bit is killer".

80. I still can't get over what the GOP did to Max Cleland
to compare him to bin laden...sick.

And they have the gall to complain? And let's not forget all the Democrats who served in the military like Murtha & Stolz, and so many more, who have been consistantly bashed by republicans.

Remember the "Purple Heart" band aids?

After Colin Powell's "performance" at the UN, is it any wonder why people would be skeptical?

Great Thread, I'm passing it on to all my friends.

95. Military is a priesthood which doesn't lie --- !! ?? !!! ???

ALL witnesses -- including Generals -- must be SWORN IN --

Rep. Tom Lantos has made clear the reality of this administration . . . .

The Iraq War Report: Rep. Lantos “We can not take ANY of this Administration’s assertions on Iraq at face value anymore”

http://www.crooksandliars.com/

If it is somehow a shock to some Americans that Generals may lie, then they are going to have to awaken to that fact.

The Military isn't a priesthood -- and even if we tried to suggest that, what would it mean these days as priests are unmasked and their lies revealed?

The fact that anyone perceives him as anything other than a Bush-cheerleading pollyanna bullshitter is what shocks me.

It's an indictment of the lack of critical thinking skills of our intellectually bankrupt nation.

I stated right after the INVASION that he was the one who could have given America some JUSTICE, but instead gave us JUST ICE!! Once again he trots his ass out and says those things that only make HIM look good!

GENERALISSIMO POWELL... you owe this country so MUCH MORE!!
